Fun thread for any car guy (or gal...or chick-LOL)

Just to drag this in a different direction. Fastest cars in the world? Guess you mean Top Speed?

I much prefer the rush of a "quick" car that can accelerate rapidly. To me that is the blast you can use/enjoy daily- even on public roads.

Top speed is simply a braggin right and if you have ever tried it quite nerve wracking. You really don't start to feel the aerodynamics work until you get the car signifigantly above double the legal limit. And then you need to worry about pot holes, others that don't realize your speed and move in front of you and the fear of some other car pulling out in front of you from a blind entrance.
Stuff I never though about when I was young.

I have been lucky enough to attend a few driving schools and I can tell you from experience that unless you are on a closed course, with near perfect pavement and in a car that has been gone over by a professional very recently you don't want to be in ANY car at speeds even remotely north of 130+ miles and hour. Besides where I am aiming the car, the apex, the exit, my thoughts get consumed with the machine that manufactuered my tires and the guy that last torked my lug nuts. If you can alay those fears, its a ton of fun!

And I will admit that I never drove any of the super exotic cars on the list but I have had some seat time in some real high end screamers.

For acceleration I prefer my ZX10R Ninja.

More horsepower stock then a Suzuki Hayabusa (169 at the wheel vs 164), over 120 lbs lighter, and with a European ECU (which mine likely has but I'll never admit) they are good for about 180 horsepower at the wheel, which is over 200 at the crank.

0-60: 2.4 seconds
0-100: 5.1 seconds (still in first gear)
1/4: 9.1's to 9.4's @ 145-148 mph

Some people have gotten high 8 second 1/4's with the euro ECU and a longer swing arm.

200 hp and 420 lbs of weight equal a lot of smiles ;)

No doubt-When I was in college my roomate had a Honda Intercepter 500 and for its time circa 1988 it was fast/fun as hell. I have sworn off all 2 wheeled machines that I do not petal! I hate to inject too much person opinion online but I have lost friends as recently as last March in Motorcycles and I see what it does to the families and especially the kids. Older lady made a left at an uncontrolled intersection and did not see my friend on a Full Size Harley. Jeep Grand Cherokee Won :(. It been a huge void in my life. To see the wife and kids suffer is just a mess and i could cry right now writing this. It is just too great a cost. I have personally be responsible for 6 people selling bikes over this story and I have also been told to F*** 0ff by some(So take your pick-- LOL) who tell me how they could get killed crossing the street. To each their own I guess.

Enjoy and be safe.

Being a big guy I was never too much into the speed thing. To me it is more horsepower and how fast a person can get from zero to the speed limit. I know I could never fit into one of those European sports car cockpits but if I ever hit the lottery I would like to find out as it would be cool to own one. As for 2 wheels the fastest I had was a Kawasaki Concours it had the somewhat de-tuned 1000cc Ninja engine in it love the power but it had more speed than I ever used, did have it in the triple digits but not very far. I know I never went for the full horsepower thing when I bought my Camaro this year but for a V6 it is the fastest and most powerful car I have owned. Even more power than the '71 Impala I owned way back in the early 80's. I am more impressed with the technology today than anything also, especially when the auto makers can squeeze well over 300HP out of a V6 of all things.

Oh, and BTW haven't you heard, speed kills. :lol2:

:bigups

Speed doesn't kill, it is the sudden deceleration.

I got my little IS350 upto like 145 more time than I can count. But fastest I've ever went was 185 in an SL65 and it got there with no problems.

118 for sure because that is the limiter on my Camaro. I deny that I was driving on the grounds it may incriminate myself. About the same on 2 wheels which seems way faster then on 4.

I guess I forgot about snow, I have a 1998 Polaris 600xc on a cold day (zero) will break into the 105 range on a warm day around 30 degrees it will barely break 85. 2 stroke engines loves cold air. the colder it is the more horsepower they make. With your butt less then 2 feet above the snow it has the speed feeling of a motorcycle.

:yay

Oh boy....

Driving...

175ish a C4 ZR1 Corvette. It was topped out in 5th (wouldn't pull 6th). I believe the top speed of those cars was listed at 178-182 but I'll say 175 to be safe.

150ish in a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Got to do a full speed launch on a private air strip. Insane. I lifted way early, cause well, I got scared. It probably took about 10 seconds to hit that speed, maybe less.

160ish in a modified LT1 Firebird for about a 5 mile stretch.

155 in my MazdaSpeed3 (speedo read 160 which I believe is optimistic).

155ish on my CBR600RR (topped out, speedo said 173 but those are famously optimistic)

140ish in a 700 horsepower 1969 442 (scary).

Riding

160ish in a real Ford GT40 (not to be confused with a Ford GT)
165+ in a Ferrari F430 Scuderia
180+ in a Corvette C6 convert. w/ a Twin Turbo 427 (top down)

I don't believe I have ever been over 200, yet.

What top speed have anyone got to? I got to 145 in Germany.

I hit 135 twice when I had my M3. Incredibly stable, felt like most cars doing 75. But around here, they don't issue tickets for double the posted speed limit....it's an overnight stay, so I never risked it again.
