Fallout UGHH

I've got a real fall-out problem on my truck. I just got my White Xterra back from the dealership after three weeks. Now that I have had a chance to wash it I notice lots of little orange dots on the paint.

The dealership offered to have a "fall out specialist" clean it up but when they mentioned an "acid wash" I was scared off. So i've started claying/cleaning the paint myself but the weather has been uncooperative.

The paint surface had fresh layers of AIO/SG before I dropped it off. How urgent is it to remove this fallout before it starts to cause damage to the finish? Theres probably less than a handful of spots left but until the weather clears up I wont be able to get to them. Basically I have been chasing them around with a clay bar, then running a bit of AIO over the area followed by UPP. What does the city recommend?

Another thought that has occurred is that I may have to clay the entire car to get rid of this problem. There could be bits of metal on there now that haven't begun to rust and are "invisible".

So would you guys rush to get this stuff off? Another product to recommend for my situation to remove this junk from my paint so I can layer my AIO/UPP/NATTYS combo on there that I have been so anxious to try?

Thanks & Aloha,

Robert

I would definately clay the entire car, a lot of it is going to be stuff you can't see. After you have clayed, reapply AIO and your SG.

If done correctly, there is nothing to be concerned about with an acid wash. Its not something I would personally do with clay as an alternatvive ( I mean who wants to kit up in rubber gloves and breathing masks to detail?!? ), but it is another way of removing fallout, and in some cases far more effective ( or even the only solution ).

But do whatever you can to clay that car then seal it up pronto. The less time fallout is on your paintwork, the less chance there is of it causing any damage ( be it removable or permanent ).

I really didnt want to rush to it but I didnt want that rust on their any longer than neccessary.

So this morning I woke up at 4AM (pretty much normal) and started working on this before work. First I washed the car, Clayed everything but the roof and right now I dont see any fallout on those panels. I then did a quick AIOx1 and UPPx1. I hope to get to the roof by tomorow.

I put the roof on the lower priority because noone will see it if the fall-out does blemish the surface. I just used the mothers clay bar, I hope it got all of it out but we'll see.

This dealership experience has not been a good one but I am trying to make the best of it.

Aloha,

Robert

I think Four Star makes a Fall Out remover that is safer than the FK1 systems and I hear is easy to use. Those systems seem to work really well, but you really have to know what you are doing (trained + professional). I would Clay, then run a polish to take care of possible contamination. Safest and most resourceful route.

Water would be the safest thing you could use. Would it be effective - No. When it comes to acid washes you do not want to use anything that contains "oxalic acid" which can be very damaging to paint, glass, trim etc. unfortunately, most all products make use of this chemical regardless.

The only one that we have found to be safe, effective and easy to use is the Finish Kare FK1 Paint Decontamination System that was mentioned above (it contains no harmful oxalic acids). The products are very mild yet highly effective.
