Fake Leather smell?

What does leather really smell like?

====================

The classical scent of leather is more leathery than the leather itself!

Do you think this is a true statement?

PM me if you would you like to try it out?

I think Accumulator is on to something. Leather conditioner tailored to the brand of car so the scent matches.

I'm kinda surprised that nobody's done that. The cost of tweaking the scent shouldn't be that much, and then they could label/market it as "official [whatever] leather treatment" with the appropriate hype.

But for practical purposes I'm satisfied with something that just dissipates-to-neutral. LM and Sonus absolutely do *NOT* alter the scent of a vehicle's interior IME.

This has me wondering about the whole "smells like a [particular marque]" issue, wonder how many people here maintain the OE scent

I was actually baiting people slightly. As someone told me once, there is a reason tanneries were located on the outskirts of cities.

As for looking at some of your products, I would be glad to try some out. Send me an email. My webpage is in my profile.

Ok, so I got my Z10, I guess my sniffer is different because I'm completely disappointed in the product. To me it smells like vomit mixed with the way AA used to smell. Then it changes the appearance of my leather, it adds a darkening sheen which looks like 303 or Megs #44. I hate this stuff.

I, like most people, have tried hard to retain the 'new car smell'...keeping a new car 'clean' will retain the smell for years but getting the smell (which is mostly from the leather) to appear in an older car (I have found) is pretty difficult.

I have spent months researching leather and leather care products - it's sort of like banging your head against the wall :bawling: - easily one of the most confusing aspects of detailing that I have found.

Anyway, I finally ordered a leather care kit from Leather Doctor...I was floored by the results. It comes with a leather scent (Leather Scent-B) that is really amazing. The kit I ordered came with six products in all...Leather Scent-B is applied last - it not only gave the leather a geniune leather scent but left it with an amazing 'buttery' feel. Compared with other products (to include Z10), it is the best I have tried to date. Just my two cents.

I'm tempted to try the Leather Masters and the Leather Doctor ... my sister likes to play chauffeur in the BMW which has light leather when they go out to paint the town...and i guess from so many people getting in and out of the car (and apparently bleed color onto the seats or something) that they seem to get dirtier...and of course what's a night out without making sure you cover up your drunken/sweaty stink like overkill on cologne/perfumes?

I figure maybe I'll pick up some Leather Master/Doctor for the Lexus (best maintained and kept clean so I figure it wouldn't hurt to keep on it) and the BMW for the times when it's back in good hands...

For other people's cars i think maybe the D180 because I think it's fairly cheap if you buy the gallon?

I am kind of intrigued by the sonus stuff and the Optimum stuff?

The kit from Leather Doctor that I purchased came with Prep 7.7...this is a thick liquid that works by dwell time - it can remove pen marks, dye transfer, etc.

My leather seats had melted Crayon - below are some pics of the process I used...I let the Prep 7.7 sit for a few minutes and then lightly brushed the Crayon and wiped with a microfiber towel...pretty simple.

This is the before image of the melted crayon:

Prep 7.7 has a thick consistency and a little goes a long way:

I used a big drop of Prep 7.7 (probably too much):

I brushed it on with a foam brush and then let it sit for 5 minutes and then brushed with a small nail brush:

Anyone else hate the fake leather smell companies put into various interior care products? I have yet to smell any product that smells like real leather, I really find the smell almost headache inducing.

Yeah I hate the Wanna-Be fragrances that really don't smell good at all. Personally I like the Little Trees Leather spray or the tree itself. I've read reviews about the fragrance I like and they said it smelled like an old man's study or something. To me it just has a nice, rich smell that lasts a long time, if you use it correctly. Hope this helps.

I miss my old 2008 R32's interior smell...it had a great leather scent from the factory that lasted the entire time I owned it.

The G8 isn't nearly as nose-pleasing.

LD Prep 7.7 is a life saver!! Great job on the crayon.

Back to topic.....Leather Doctor's Leather Scent B is the most amazing, longest lasting leather aroma imaginable.
