Extreme vibration on PC with 4" pads!!!

Just tried out Excel Detail's 3" backing plate with the 4" pads and at speed 6 the vibrations seem twice as much as the 6.5" pads with a 5" backing plate.

Is this how it's supposed to feel?

I don't know if that how its supposed to feel, but its the same thing for me.

I can't wait until I can go to the larger pads for some smooth running.

My 4" pads run quite smooth. What counterweight are you using?

I think the standard one that came with it?

From what I've read I thought they don't make a difference, but that is with a 5" BP and 6.5" pads.

It feels so much better with the bigger pads and BP's on the PC, kind of frustrating.

The vibrations are liveable at speed 5, but once I crank it to 6 it feels like it's going crazy!

I have the same experience--extreme vibration with the 4" pads. At speed 6, it almost makes my hand hurt. I'm also using the counterweight that came with the 7336.

I, like Accumulator, use the 6" counterweight, and everything runs quite smoothly for me. If you have the 7336, you automatically have the 6" counterweight. Do you still have the handle attached to your PC?

Yeah the handle is still on there, it vibrates so bad it hurts...

Take off the handle, it transmits and magnifies the vibration. Hold the PC by putting your hand on the top of the housing over the pad.

Consider vibration-absorbing gloves

Make sure your pad is centered on the backing plate.

If all else fails buy a Cyclo ;) I mean seriously, I wouldn't use a machine that actually *hurts* me to polish a car or to do anything else that's not of life-and-death importance. If there's any way you can swing the cost of a Cyclo (maybe buy a used one off the big auction site) it'll last forever.

That's exactly where I was headed with my question. :bigups

JDookie- Heh heh, sorry if I stole your punchline :o

IMO this whole vibration issue is something people oughta take seriously. IIRC it's called "white finger" and can result in permanent nerve damage. I sure wouldn't want somebody's hand(s) messed up over polishing a car.

I just bought a 7424. Vibrates like crazy even with the included white pad. And that's with the default 6" counterweight. The way it is, I'm reluctant to run it at any speed setting over 3.

What the world needs is an adjustable counterweight for that stupid thing.

No problem! It doesn't matter who says it, just as long as it's said! :hifive:

The default (factory) counterweight in a 7424 is a 5" counterweight. The machine always has *some* vibration. It's just the nature of the beast. Regardless, I switched out to the 6" counterweight, removed the side handle, and never looked back.
