Extractor + Chemical questions

I have just ordered an Aztec and have a few questions:

1) Is it ok to add any chemical directly into the extractor itself (i.e. mix the chemical with water inside)? If yes, what kind?

2) I assume it's ok to spray the carpet and extract it (hoping the chemical won't clog the extractor eventually), right?

3) What do you do to maintain it?

Thank you.

It is okay to add chemical directly to the solution tank and there are products designed specifically for that purpose. I do not like to do it, however, as I choose to spray the carpet with cleaner and extract with clean water. This also seems to be the most popular method of extraction. The chemical will not clog the extractor.

It is advised to clean and maintain your extractor and it will usually say the proper way on the manual when you get your extractor. Usually it involves filling the solution tank with a water/cleaner mixture and recycling it through the sprayer and back into the solution tank until clean to maintain the inline heater and pump.

definately buy a defoamer product, otherwise there will be too many suds. And use less product than you think. And don't leave leftover solution in the carpets. Sometimes I do a cleaning pass with the extractor, then fill it with pre water and do a rinse pass. And there are a lot of brass parts in the machine. No harsh chemicals, rinse the machine out often, and grease all the fittings often. The extractor was a great purchase for me. We actually had the opportunity to clean a "death car" with it. Someone had been assasinated in the back seat. We cleaned blood, urine, and feces out with the machine, using a solution that contained a lot of amonia.
