Expensive wax is it worth the $$$$

Carnauba wax price tag $50,000?

Speaks volumes for the marketing of a product

With organic waxes you reach a certain price point, usually over $200, when you are not just paying for the basic ingredients anymore. Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

The set price point of a high dollar wax has to recuperate:
- R&D costs, the so called speciality waxes or a glaze usually sells in small numbers
- Product packaging, usually eye catching and expensive
- Marketing cost are high as the product needs to appeal to an exclusive market segment
- Vendor mark-up, due to low volume sales this is usually much higher than for other products
- A higher than average price tends to add to the elitist or exclusivity factor
- Carnauba % content is a very inaccurate method to assess overall performance or value

Then there is the luxury effect and products uniqueness. Mr Royce said this about the price charged for RR automobiles [The price charged is whatever the market will stand]

In the final analysis; a wax or sealant can only reflect what is underneath it, so a clean, level well-prepared surface is the most important consideration (85% of a surfaces reflectivity is its preparation) along with applied product clarity

You guys are just a bunch of cavemen whose world is coming to an end. Just like when you first saw fire..... CAVEMEN!!!!!

Any detailer knows that vehicle prep is where it's at when it comes to making a vehicle shine. That said, I don't have a clue how someone can present a statistic that determines what percentage of a vehicles reflection is due to the prep work. That number just seems so arbitrary.

Maybe 20% of the shine is due to the light of the caveman's fire. Don't you think that the way the paint was laid down plays a pretty good percentage in this equation? You sure it couldn't be 5 points higher or 5 points lower? No offense but this seems like drivel designed to attract the attention of someone not paying attention to what their reading. ;)

"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Inquiring student wants to know.:crazy2:

This Caveman has seen the error of his ways as well as the light of his caveman fire. Not only does he realize now that he was a caveman before, but he has now switched to Geico auto insurance.

<<<< Stepping down off of soap box :dance2

Never seen a $50,000 wax and I know the 50K reference was made with respect to R&D but I know that Zymol produced a product called Solaris. It went for 30K, Waterford Crystal container and all. They were only supposed to make 25 containers of this product and of course it came with lifetime refills.

I don't know if this reasoning makes any sense but they no longer show it as available on their site. I wonder if this means they sold all 25 units. I think it was BlackBart that picked up a couple of these when they were available. He got 2 so that he wouldn't be without while his container was being refilled. :rofl

Here's what 30 grand worth of wax looks like:

I'd like one so I could turn that container into a Christmas tree ornament, or maybe hang it from my rearview. :D

Over the years I have tried most of them yellow carnuba's and those twice a year brazilian carnuba's. I just don't think they are worth it, specially if they are a daily driver. as it just does not last under most conditions.
The quality of how deep the paint gloss is on the prep work. the wax or sealer is like the icing on the cake. Personally I like sealers than a wax.....mainly for the longevity .
The long and the short .no matter if you pay 5.00 or 200.00 it's how you prep the surface for the end product that gives it the gleem
