DavidB, why didnt you use a sanding block, everyone ive talked to said that it is a definate no-no to wet sand w/out a block.

thanks for the replies! this is what i decided to do. im gona fill the scratch carefully with touch up paint just so its a bit higher than the normal paint level. then sand it down with 3m imperial wet/dry 2000 grit ( i could only find 1000 and 2000, no 1500). sand it with tiny pressure with some soapy water. stoping frequently to dry and check very often. once i see similar results as that picture where the paint has evenly sanded out a bit, ill use the 3M rubbing compound with a terry pad. lightly rubbing in teh same direction with about 20 strokes max and checking results. then i will use my 3M SMR on another terry pad and in the same direction also with med pressure to light pressure as it dries up.

now i need another clarification, how much of the rubbing compound should i use? when do i know its enough and i should use the SMR polish? after the rubbing compound, do i just keep using the SMR as much as i want till i acheive max results? thanks again!

Brad4rdHay... the fender I was working on had too many curves to use a sanding block. I have a few different size blocks, and I always use them on flat panels.

 You guys give me too much credit... this one was easy. Just wait until you see me drop the engine out of the 911 so I can detail it!

I love this job!!!

I don't know... I'm testing ZFX right now, and it is too close to call. Very subjective. They are both tweeky products for serious car nuts.

So how does this compare to your old 966, the speed yellow one. You said that the 966 was faster but that this one is more fun. Handling? Curious because i too love Porsches but i aint ownin one anytime soon.

Don't get me wrong, the 996 is a great sports car. However, it lost some of the raw feeling of the air cooled 911s. The 993 is the best of the original design. I like the "on-edge" feeling of the 993 compared to the 996. The 996 is much easier to drive fast, but the ability of the car takes a lot of the fun out of driving.

Just bought a 2009 Ford Expedition that was a rental fleet vehicle. Are the leather seat surfaces vinyl coated?
Should I just use a leather cleaner/conditioner product or something meant for vinyl?
