EX or Natty's for my customers?

I'm getting ready to start my mobile detailing business and I'm having some trouble deciding which LSP to use. I want obviously want to give the longest protection, but the shine is more important when I give the car back to the customer. Will EX give me the shine I'm looking for, or should I just stick with Natty's as my LSP?

Hi. I charge $5 extra for a sealant upgrade. My regular wax is Natty's Blue ($5 extra for Souveran), and this is how I decide which sealant:
1. Good to great finish: EX-P
2. OK finish but could use some hiding of blemishes they didn't want to pay to remove: EX
3. Crappy finish, they shouldn't be bothering at all: NXT Tech Wax

you can't go wrong either way...i think you may get more applications out of the Natty's, and most people really have no clue about sealants but love to know how many coats of wax they have on their car:rolleyes: upsell would be an extra coat;)

this would work too but you'd have to carry more products :)

I was thinking about charging extra $ to do a sealent too. I want to be able to sell them on just a wash an wax though in a month or so. When I tell people how long the sealent should last, they assume they don't have to take care of it because, "it protects for 6 months".

HAHA. You're right, most of the people I deal with don't even know what a sealant is. I think I'm going to go with the Natty's, and maybe pick up a small thing of sealant for car savvy customers that ask for it. About how many average size cars with Natty's do? I know it depends on how I use it, I was just looking for a guess.

OFF TOPIC: I didn't want to start another thread, but same thing with the SSR1. With a 32 OZ how many vehicles can I expect to do with this product?

I think it was rabbi who was on 25 coats and nearing the end of his jar...I've yet to finish one so I'd only be guessing.
The SSR1 would be a harder guess..I would designate about 2-3 ounces per vehicle but that again depends on the size and condition as well as the user.

That's clever. But the few times I've asked if they wanted a second coat they say, "Is the first one not good enough?" :lmfao

first one is good but more is always better..would be my response:D

Because my opinion is paramount in all discussions, I must add that our detail crew puts EX-P on just about every car that goes out of here and is destined for actually being driven. We have had no complaints. Financially the EX-P does cost a good bit more than what we previously used but I think the customer is getting a product which will make them happier and thus more likely to come buy a shiny new again.

I also use the EX-P on my daily drivers. I love the stuff!

Alright, here's a question for those of you use sealants on customers cars. I'm guessing you do the exterior first so that you let the sealant cure for the recommended 45 min - 1 hour dwell time?

Actually when I detailed, I always did interiors first while i was clean and especially if I was shampooing rug or upholstery to give it time to dry.
I hate getting into a car to clean after my sneakers get wet and I'm all hot, dirty and sweaty from polishing. While the sealant is curing or the wax is hazing , I do wheels, trim, and fine detailing of the nooks and crannies as well as engine compartment..the hood can be open while the sealant/wax is drying & there's always some edge cleaning to do...well that's just me..I'm sure others do it the opposite way:D

If it's a first time customer I explain the process of claying, polishing, and sealing(EX-P or EX). The kicker is the sealant b/c I tell them it "seals" in all the prep work. I tell them if they want to keep their car looking "glossy" they can get on my maintenance program and once a month I will detail their car -wash, bug removal, etc- and I will add 2 coats of Natty's/Natty's blue. Most say yes right away but you will get those who won't want to do it. I carry my PC, pads, and waxes in a Craftsman tool box and it works great. Also I carry a record book w/me and I get name, phone#, vehicle info, date, and the process I used in order to know what I've done to a particular car.

I'm a big fan of EX. It's one of a handful of sealers that gives you a nice carnuba look with polymer protection. It looks especially good on dark colors. I would consider EX-P for lighter paint.

Another option to consider is PwC (final polish + protect). It's a real time saver, and works well as a 1 step. To take things a bit further... PwC + Natty's leaves a pretty impressive looking finish.

For weekly touch ups or wash & wax jobs, I'd consider QW+ (but apply it with a finishing pad). It holds up as well as Natty's IMO, and a little goes a long way. Steve still has some in his warehouse clearance. It's worth a shot -I use it a lot in the summer.

Did this help, or make your head hurt ?!?

use both i know i do. I find that on older cars that havent been treated well that are gettin the once in a life time detail i use the EX as it is longer lasting and thats what the customer wants. However when i have customers that get there car done eveymonth or a high and sports car i use the nattys. I find the nattys is shinnier and deaper but the shine dosent last as long. I think you should use both and decide which to use dpending on the car and the customer

I do interior first with shampooing. I polish, then wax. During wax drying I do windows, pick my nose, write receipts, etc.

I would like to do both, but how do you guys do it? I thought for sure a sealant had to sit for 24 hours before anything else was put on it. I don't plan on making trips back to the people the next day.

mgm2003, PwC does sound pretty good. Can I go from ssr 2.5 with a polishing pad to the PwC?

I wouldn't worry about waiting especially in the Spring , Summer and Fall
I know that ScottWax on Autopia doesn't wait. Most people will not expect more than 3-4 months protection and you'll get thateasy.
Yes you can go to PwC from SSR2.5 and thenext version of PwS might even do it better;)

After applying Nattys, if it rains while there is a little dust, does it make spots or wash the dirt away?
I've never had rain make permanent spots, but our water leaves spots in seconds.
Natty's has been my friend.
