EX cure time?

OK, so I'm nearly there and have (I think) everything I need so I'm just praying that it stays dry this weekend.

I've ordered a Megs cordless buffer - not as good as a PC but will at least cut down on application time. I also have the following.

3M clay

#9

DACP

P21S

EX

My plan is to wash with Megs GC, clay (although I've clayed twice in the last 4 weeks), then #9 with the buffer and move to DACP (think I'm right with this - use least abbrasive product 1st). I then plan to seal with EX and top with PS.

Should I be leaving a cure time as I'm planning on 2 coats of EX depending on weather (garage full of house move junk so car outside)?

Suggestions?

Nice choice of products you have there. Now you just have to modify your process a bit.

Wash

Clay(not really necessary if you've clay'd recently as stated)

DACP

#9

EX by hand(30-60min between coats)

P21S by hand

You'll be good to go.

Thanks for that!

My main issue all along has been swirls so I'm really hoping that the DACP will kill the pesky things off. Hopefully my new buffer will assist me in this task.

Promise to post some pics of the results if the weather stays good.

No problem. You'll find that after you use DACP and then move on to the #9 it will look soooo much better after the #9. #9 does a great job of polishing after DACP and filling the remaining swirls. Be sure to work the DACP into the paint until almost dry. Also, what pads are you going to be using with the cordless polisher?

Cure time........

Ive honestly not noticed much difference between 1/2 an hour and nearly two hours with the EX. I think the longer you leave it the better basically (says 1/2 to an hour on the bottle).

Between coats ideally leave a day to let everything cure etc (difficult now with our damp winters). I personally did not notice to much difference between 1 and two coats on the silver Impreza but hope to try with a darker coloured car this weekend if the weather holds to see if it makes a difference.

Look forward to seeing you Saturday. Bacon Sarnies are on you! lol.... :)

According to Steve, you can apply successive coats with no wait time. Apparently you get better durability if you wait a day though.

There's not much point using #9 if u were going to use a sealant... cos its not going to bond well with the paintwork!

Maxshine;

Cure time; I've used EX once (sample thanks to Alex Creasey) and applied to whole car then left for about 1/2 hour before removing. I'm wanting opinion on cure time (i.e. should I then leave for a period of time before applying another coat then topping with PS). Scottwax seems to be saying no need and he da man....

aojk;

I'd not heard that before - anyone else offer anythoughts on this as I hand applied #9 last time around then a layer of EX and didn't find any bonding problems (but then again I'm no expert at this!)

Alex;

See ya tomorrow morning mate!

Sorry, jeremy p111, forgot you!

I've ordered 2 each of the Megs beige & yellow pads (I forget the codes but they're in the pro catalogue - 8006/7006?).

I've heard a lot of people say to make sure the DACP is worked right in for it be effective and this is principally why I've gone for a buffer as I ain't Scottwax and can't get the right results by hand.

Hopefully this will now change....

AndyC,

I'd never doubt Scottwax but I thought 'just' about anything needed at least a day. I'd PM Poorboy or post @ DetailCity to be sure.

Thanks maxshine! Main problem is the great British weather and it looks set to rain tomorrow so I've only got Sunday to do my car.

Anyhow, this is the perfect excuse to get me a toy so let's hope I get a bonus in April!

Go ahead and doubt me. I'm not perfect. :nixweiss

I'm pretty sure though that Steve says no need to wait for the second coat for shine, but 24 hours for best durability.

That's why we're all here isn't it? :up

AndyC, Looks like you'll be on your way to a nice shine for the winter months. Good choice on the pads. Those should work fine for the polishing. Your right about DACP. You do have to work it to get the best results. You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. Just be sure to do small sections at a time and you'll do great.

Hope everyone had a great turkey day.

For winter I'd just stick with EX - better protection. Then next spring start over or start topping with P21S. JMO

I've found EX to be the least 'picky' product I've used in terms of temp. and humidity.

Got to agree with Maxshine with regards to EX not being 'picky'. The first time I used it the heavens opened (no surprise there then!), about 1/2 an hour after application. Went through the usual motions of "bl**dy English weather! I'm sure it waits till I'm almost finished!" When the shower passed, waited approx another 1/2 hour, gently brushed away any surface water and then removed as normal........ Behaved perfectly! As easy to remove then as it has been since with no streaking etc. Made me feel much happier :)

I'd agree with the 'no need to wait for removal' brigade. I have used EX on 5 different cars both light & dark colours & I haven't noticed any difference whether buff off immediately or leave on for 20 mins or so. EX is possibly the most forgiving product I've ever used.

Trouble is with our weather now, even if it remains dry it's starting to get damp @ 2 - 3pm, so not easy to get it buffed.

If you need to top I would use P21S after EX & not before as suggested. I have also found CMW to be an excellent topper & easy to apply & remove.
