Evo IX MR - Rally Red Detail

Hmm, I tried posting last night but for whatever reason it didn't post.........

Anyway, :2thumbs: for a fellow Evo IX owner! It looks AWESOME! :)

I used NXT on my Evo in October and really, really regretted it for the winter here in Wisconsin. It looks great, but it definitely doesn't have enough durability to survive a harsh winter. I personally noticed the "wow" factor to be gone after a couple weeks even with washing my car and using NXT speed detailer afterwards. When I washed my car outside in March, there was next to no beading and the paint looked pretty "blah". I've since switched to Zaino since I know it will comfortably last from October - March through winter. I applied it over a month ago and it still looks as amazing as the first day I applied it.

I've never used Meg26, but I've used GC and found that GC is more durable than NXT, but NXT looks better than GC. My advice is to use up your NXT throughout the summer, probably re-applying it at least monthly, and then switch to a sealant or more durable wax in the fall for the MA winter. I still have a whole bottle of NXT liquid wax and 1/2 tin of NXT paste that I plan on using on family members' cars and such, but once the NXT is gone, I'll only have Zaino in my arsenal.

Zaino looks as good as NXT, is *incredibly* easy to use, and lasts and lasts, so for my needs here in WI, a good sealant like Zaino is perfect for me.

Thanks, looking into the Z product line...Thinkin about ordering Z2 pro...is the accelerator necessary?..do you use it, esp when applying > 1 coat?..

From what I understand, you *need* to use the ZFX (accelerator) if you're going to layer coats of Z2pro/Z5pro. Reading through Zaino's web page can be kind of intimidating because there's so many products and possibilities of how to layer products. Here's my input on the Zaino system:

-- I *HATE* the cotton applicator pads that Zaino gives you with large orders -- they lint like crazy!!! To remedy this, I ordered some Blue Perl Microfiber Applicators from Autopia's store. Make sure you have one per product you're going to apply. My only gripe with these pads is that I ordered four and 2 or 3 of them tore a bit on the side... I'm assuming it was a fluke defect, though.

-- For a "bare-bones" Zaino detail, I would prep the car (wash, dry, clay) and then use Z-AIO and Z-CS.

-- For a "step-up" detail, I'd prep the car, use Z-AIO, 1-2x ZFX'd Z-2pro, and then Z-CS

-- Since I'm insane and want my Evo to last forever and shine forever, I prepped my car, used Sonus SFX-3 polish (probably wasn't necessary), Z-AIO, 2x ZFX'd Z5pro one day and about a week later washed and dried my car to apply another coat of ZFX'd Z5pro, ZFX'd Z2pro, and then Z-CS. (Look for pictures in the next week or so)

In choosing what to buy, you really have to decide how hardcore you want to be about layering Zaino. I'm guessing that Z-AIO and Z-CS gets a car looking 90%-equal compared to my insane process... I just wanted to keep layering Zaino because it applies so easily and goes on easier after each layer (plus I find it to be a stress reliever).

For my "bare-bones" detail, you'd just need Z-AIO, Z-CS, and Z-8 which is conveniently sold as a bundle for $73.

Side note: I thought that Zaino was a bit ridiculously priced at first when comparing ounces/ dollar, but it's pretty competitive once you do the math on dollars/ coat. I made the mistake of mixing 1 oz of Z5pro the first night I tried Zaino only to find out you can do 2-3 coats of it on an Evo with just 1 oz. Z5pro is $17 for 8oz, so you figure ~$1.06/coat + ~$.30/coat of ZFX for a total of $1.36/coat. Although I never measured, I'm assuming I use ~2oz of NXT wax for one coat. A bottle of NXT liquid costs $15 for 18oz, so a coat would cost ~$1.67 with those numbers.

Also consider that Zaino lasts up to 6 months and NXT lasts up to 2 months... based on these numbers, Zaino is now 3x more affordable, just more expensive initially. The only thing is, it's taking everything I have to *not* apply more Zaino on a more frequent basis than every 2 months, much less every 6 months, so that point is kind of null, but at least it has the potential!

I hope I didn't flood you with information. If you have any questions or want my advice, let me know -- I'm always on here.

BTW, I'm obviously a newbie poster here... I kept getting errors while trying to post the two messages above as one message. Is there a limit to how big a single post can be?
