I have a car with old coffee stains in the light blue carpet that will not come out with steam cleaning and Folex. Has anyone ever used a diluted bleach solution to clean stubborn stains out of carpet? I can't think of anything else to use. I am wondering if the steam cleaner set the stains but they have been there a while.

I would suggest clorox II but not chlorine bleach.

Don't use bleach, you don't know how much to mix, plus it will eat up the fibers. Try using oxi clean, you can get it for around 3 bucks at wal-mart. There is bleach in it, but it's color safe. Be sure to mix it with hot water

I wouldn't do that. One of the best stain removers I've used in a long time believe it or not is just some cheap Purple Power concentrate from Walmart or the Dollar Store. The premixed bottles aren't worth much, but you can buy a gallon of strong concentrate for like $6.00 and use it on all kinds of stuff. My wife turned me onto it and I fell in love with it. It took some stains out of my sons carpet that nothing else would touch, and I had tried some really high dollar products on it..give it a shot

Bleach will get the coffee stain out alright, along with the color of the carpet. I did a SUV years back that had a container of bleach spill in the cargo area. They ended up replacing that section as it turned a light gray carpet white.
If steaming and Floex have not removed the stains chances are its not coming out.
Question? how hot of water have you used on the stain?

never use chlorine bleach on colored items, they will turn white! or can eat through the fabric...common sense prevails in most cases. if its an organic stain use an organic type of cleaner like something with enzymes, if its a synthetic stain (dyes,oils,greases ect) you need something synthetic..they do make whole stain removal kits. as mrclean stated purple power will work great as well just dont use on certain materials straight, that falls down to common sense which includes reading the bottle. they also good luck on removing the stain. also check the grocery store/walmart near the RIT dyes they have products out by carbona that can remove certain types of stains(they have like 6 different types of stain products) . good luck on removing the stain.

Certain stains require special cleaners, there is no one cleaner that removes everything. I will use cleaners like Folex, 303, or other APC's for general cleaning, but stains like vomit, kool-aid, rust, urine, coffee, grease, tar and ink, all require special cleaners to properly remove the stain. Spotting kits like the one I have below can be purchased at pretty much and janitorial supply store. You may not need them often, but they come in very handy when you do...especially if you have a wife who likes red wine!

My first car was an 1986 Z, and the carpet was terrible on them 11 years ago. Carpet dye or replacement is often a good solution.

With a old carpet stain like that, I would just replace it. It would be a great weekend job to do and also gives time to clean up the interior.
