A member on a different board hit me up and inquired about what all was involved with detailing and paint correction work as he has always just waxed the silver and light color cars he has always had in the past. This time, being a black car, he knew it had to be different...
I arrived to what I was thinking would be able to get polished out in about 10 hours or so just like the other black mercedes I did a couple months prior. This was not the case! It ended up taking about 17 hours from start to finish just to achieve 90% correction. based on how bad the starting condition was, I knew that perfection was not going to be possible without multiple days and lots of work! We planned and agreed on one day, up to 10 hours...I went way over that one - two days and 17 hours!
Process:
CGWG wash to remove the loaded up waxes and oils on the car = lots of it! I decided to wash the car twice as one was not enough.
before and after the washes
Wheels were taken care of by CG sticky citrus wheel cleaner - no afters until the after shots.
Befores
After all that was completed, here is what the car looked like all over - scratches, swirls, etc.
Here is a decent 50/50 after 3 rounds of polishing - my test section
After all the compounding and polishing, it was time for a bath...a much needed one as a simple wipe down was out of the question! This was after meguiars 105 and menzerna SIP
I also had to do a little touch up. i mentioned that I can hit a couple of spots here and there, but if the whole car was peppered, it needs to just be repainted...well, apparently it was peppered!!!
here is the after result after just laying the paint in the spots and lightly polishing after! As I mentioned, to do over 75 spots with a full sand and refill and the rest, I would have had to keep the car for another day or so. The bumper was cracked, peppered and broken...needs a new bumper and/or repaint
Well, now that all else is out of the way, wax has been removed and the rest tidied up, here are the afters! 90% would be a safe bet! Some rids and deep stuff remained, but overall its a huge improvement to the overall look of the car!
***Door handle was about 60% cleared up...hard paint and working tricky areas by hand = very tired hands! I spent about 45 min total on them, normally a five min ordeal Excuse the smearing in the hood sun shot, BFWD was not easily removing from the paint.
