End of season detail: '99 Mazda Protege LX

LOL I was wondering if anyone would notice that little dent. It was there when I bought the car.

Bumper plugs? Where do you get those? And what do they look like when they're "installed"?

OK I've seen those before. That would be an interesting idea, but it would ruin my defense strategy when I get pulled over.

See I've been pulled over twice before for not having a front plate on. Both times, I said this:

"Oh, I just waxed the car yesterday and I forgot to put the plate back on. I have it in the trunk though...I can put it back on right now if you want."

Then both times I was just let off. The officers obviously knew I was willing to put it back on right there in front of them, so there was no reason for a "fix-it" ticket.

If I had bumper plugs, it would be pretty obvious that I deliberately removed the front plate and did not intend to put it back on.

Heh heh, guess you just have to outgrow the "front plate violation age" demographic :D

I used to get hassled about stuff like this but now that I'm older and presumably more responsible looking they don't even mention such things when they have me pulled over for speeding tickets. I've even had them walk to the front of the car, see there's no plate, then walk to the back to verify the license plate numbers off the back one. Only had *one* LEO even say anything and he didn't write it up.

I suppose it also makes a difference what kind of car you're driving. I used to get pulled over ALL the time in my '98 Chevy Blazer for stupid stuff, or just so the cop could hassle me and then let me go. I got my '02 GMC Envoy almost a year ago, and have NOT ONCE been pulled over, or even given a second look by the cops. I even went by a speed trap doing easily 10 over the limit in a 35MPH zone (was preoccupied at the time), realized it as I saw the radar gun pointed in my direction, and hit the brakes instantly to go the speed limit. The LEO didn't even flinch. :woohoo: I did the exact same move in my blazer, and ended up with a ticket written for 5 over.

Yeah in the Maxima, I got pulled over twice SOLELY due to my front plate missing. I wasn't speeding or anything.

I think it also depends on the size of the town/city. In small towns, the police force doesn't have anything better to do. In a large city, the cops are more concerned with bank robbers, rapists, and murderers. Missing front plates are the least of their worries.

Yeah, I have a friend who is a cop, started out urban then moved suburban. When he was in the city, he said it was 95% violent crime, and 5% traffic enforcement (he would never pull anyone over for a burned out tail light, for instance). When he got on a suburban force, it was the other way around, all traffic enforcement.

Yeah, compared with the stuff I used to drive, the Audis (let alone the minvan) are virtually ticket-proof. I actually cover ground a lot faster now that I drive "slower" cars.
