einszett 1z polishes with UDM

Hi,

I'm a new user and have some questions. I'm working with 3 year old paint(Mazda titanium gray) that has been very well taken care of, just some light swirls.

I just got a UDM with some einszett 1z pasta intensiv and the hochglanz politur. I'm going to be using just white polishing pads with both. I've read here that you should keep the RPMs low when using the 1z line, 1000rpms with a rotary.

What's low RPM on a UDM? I'm thinking around 5 should still be fine? Or can I go even higher?

I tried a small section using speed 3 and it did nothing...I gave just enough pressure to keep the UDM flat and worked the polish for 2-3 mins before I noticed the polish became pretty clear and I wiped it off...would it be safe to keep working the polish for 5 mins...as long as it doesn't completely dry up?

Thanks!

Id bump up the udm to speed 5 or 6 and try that first. Make sure your moving about 1-2" per second. Also it might help to move up to some 4" orange pads. I'm not sure how long the working time is on 1z but someone else should be able to answer that.

As Jscort98 says, you'll be better off with four inch pads, for sure.

I haven't used the Intensive Paste, but I've read alot about it. I do have (and use) the High Gloss. The High Gloss is one of the easiest to use polishes ever. I've used the High Gloss on the PC at speed six with no problems. Set your UDM to speed six, and work the polish until it disappears. Then wipe off what little residue remains. It really is that easy. :) Those two 1Z polishes are really under rated. I'm very surprised more people haven't picked up on them.

You'll get best results with multiple applications of each polish. I'd plan on *at least* two applications of the Intensive Paste (possibly more if there are still defects in the paint you want to remove), and at least two of the High Gloss. Three if you have time. You won't hit your max gloss until three applications, normally (depending on how hard your paint is).

Thanks guys.

I'll bump it up to 6 and work the polishes until they disappear. I've only got white pads and don't have anywhere local to pick up the orange pads so I'll do at least two applications.

I'll report back.

I'd use a more aggressive pad with the 1Z Pasta Intensiv, at least for the initial pass(es). The mildest pads I've used it with are the 4" Cyclo green, and IMO those are a little more aggressive than the LC white. And if you're using ~6" pads, well...I'd only use 4" pads for correction.

With a RO/DA, the speed shouldn't be that big of an issue, I use 5 (or 4 if the panel is warm) with the PC and the Cyclo is ~3K opms (but with a different throw).

But get the smaller pads. The Pasta Intensiv oughta be plenty potent enough for the Mazda, I don't use anything that strong on my MPV (OK, that was made in Japan and yours wasn't, but still...). In fact, I think "Mazda...light swirls" and the Pasta Intensiv seems too aggressive if anything!

This seems like the best place to ask this from doing a quick search

My 1z polishes are a PITA. They dry up and become a nightmare to remove after just going over the panel 2 times. I am using a PC at speed 5-6 and the lo-pro 5.5 white and orange pads

The car that I am doing is an 90s S-class and the paint seems kinda soft...?

Dunno about the S-class paint, mine were older W126 models and that paint was kinda soft.

Which 1Z polishes are you using? Most problems come from using too high a speed and yeah, that can apply with the PC too (only times I've had problems with 1Z via PC/Cyclo it was from too fast/overworking the product). With 1Z, when in doubt, turn down the speed and avoid using extra pressure.

I have had good success with their consumer line expecially the 'Extra' on Frozen Diamonds Hard Audi A6 Paint (2005) . 1Z Extra feels like sand paper and is of an extremely high cut (but not dangerous in my opinion). It also breaks down quick, dusts a little bit (although more dust when used with a rotary IMO).

It does do a good job, it just might take a while. Because PC/UDM is not as 'powerful' as a rotary.

Good luck.

IanB- Yeah, the Extra was my first-step product for fingernail scratches behind Audi door handles for a *long* time.

If you like the Ultra/Extra, you really oughta try their Pasta Intensiv. After trying that, I've pretty much relegated my Extra to wheelwell/undercarriage duty...I like the Pasta Intensive *that* much better. Gotta be a little careful with it though, it's not idiot-proof the way Extra is (gee, guess how I know :o ).

With the 3.5" LC PFW pads, Pasta Intensiv seems capable of removing any marring that's safe to remove, and that's by PC. I can almost see it making the rotary unnecessary.
