Egged 911

This black convertible 911 was egged by a couple of punk jerks and the paint in a few places got stained. There are two impact areas where the eggs hit and those are the worst areas. I am attempting to remove as much of the stains as possible without going thru the clear. I will use my Metabo with an orange pad at about 1400 rpm’s and a 600 grit heat induced leveling compound. In the picture below you will notice 2 red semi-circles that indicate swirls (top semi-circle) and within the lower semi-circle you can just make out where one egg made impact and appears to have cracked the top coat.

Here is the other area that got hit by an egg. There are also stains from the eggs that run down just behind the rear wheel and also stains around the “Carrera emblem. The Emblem may need to be removed to allow me to buff that area because the egg has settled in the letters. I’ll then order a new emblem and re-apply it. The egg also bubbled the paint in a few places but there is nothing that can be done there except a re-paint.

I started this detail this afternoon and got just about half way done and will post follow up pictures tomorrow if the Dr. can leave me the car again. I have two more details set for tomorrow, a Porsche Cayenne and a Merc. SL so I hope he leaves me

the car early so I can finish it, snap a few pics and get on with my day.

Sucks when that happens, eh Anthony?

Those marks in the second pic are usually caused by the egg shells cutting into the paint. You are right, only a repaint will fix it.

I guess you just can't have nice things.

same here, my hood had an egg dropped onto it (there was a nest near where i was parked and it fell)... in 2 hrs. it ate away my clear :(

Hurts a lot more on a Porsche... :(

Well here are a few AFTER pics of the egged 911 C4. I apologize for the difference in picture shots but I forgot what angles I took the BEFORE pictures.

The paint damge is still there but it is not as noticable now and the swirls have been eliminated. I had just enough time to really do the rear of the Porsche and hope to finish off the rest tomorrow. I took a few BEFORE pictures of the front end and I hope to post the AFTER pictures tomorrow or Friday.

But for now here are a few AFTER shots of the rear area finishd out with Trade Secret.

Yeah I had my M3 egged as well...left a mark similiar to the second picture you have posted there, I got the car repainted on that side.

I still need to do a few final inspection passes and remove some buffing splatter and then detail out the rear fin area plus the engine.

I notice that you like to use Trade Secret often. What kind of durability do you see with it? Does the heat of TX have any effect? I am asking because I am considering using the product. Thanks for the info.

I wish you were in my neck of the woods and I could show you how to fix the egg damage in person. You can repair it to about 75% by using a special paint touch up technique but it will never be 100% without repainting. Unfortunately if you look closely under 30x maginfication you will find that a typical egg splatter is actually tiny chips in the paint in a "starburst" pattern. I have been told that this is caused by the amino acids in the egg breaking down the clear.

bet993,

I use Trade Secret mainly on darker colors because it seems to deepen the color while S100 seems to give silvers and lighter colors more highlights.....geez I sound like a gay hairstylist:eek:

As for durability I get about 6 weeks out of Trade Secret, especially if a carnauba QD is used after washes but durability is not a big deal for me since I give most of my clients a spruce up every month.

Shineshop,

Yeah it would be great to know how to touch up things like this egg hit and other paint problems. I have been thinking about getting into PDR but I am so busy doing detailing I have no real time to set aside for training.

Here is another picture of the 911

AFTER pic. The swirls are removed but sadly you can now see all the rock chips even more now, or at least they seem to be more visable.

Anthony, nice effort. Looks many times better. Too bad that egg is so destructive on paint. The owner should still be happy....Andrew
