I purchased a handgun yesterday, and had an idea when I opened the case up! The eggcrate foam used in these cases would be perfect for applying LSP, dressings, coatings...etc. Super soft, conforms to curves, would be easy to handle bc of the eggcrate texture. Has anyone else been crazy enough to think of this yet? I'm going to test and make sure it doesn't marr the finish to soft black paint, but it feels super soft and at least 100 ppi compared to some of my other pads with ppi ratings. You can buy the stuff super cheap in big sheets on Uline and probably many other packaging places, and cut to fit whatever size you need. Thought, comments, am I crazy?
