Edge Wools Pads with Flex??

Anyone use them (6") with success or should they be left for rotary use only? I am thinking of trying out the yellow or green.

Thanks,

Chris

You need to buy the adapter but once you get that, the Flex should work fine with the 6 inch Edge pads. Now the 8 inch pads are probably too big for the Flex.

I'd be a little careful with that yellow one. I've used 4" versions of the yellow and blue on a PC, but that was for mighty aggressive work and adding in the Flex's forced rotation might result in more than you bargained for.

I do wonder how the white/minimal-cut Edge wool pads would work though...

Seems like wool+Flex = a lot of aggressiveness. Personally, I like the additional capability of the Flex with standard foam pads with the safety factor it provides.

All I use are Edge. Love them on the Flex. I've even used the 8 inchers with the flex but it wasn't very effective in comparison to the 6 inchers. So basically, 4", 6" on the Flex...4", 6", and 8" on the Rotary.

Although I cannot comment on the Edge wool pads with the Flex, I can tell you that the LC purple foamed wool pads work very well with the Flex.

Hmmm...guess I might oughta rethink the whole Flex/wool thing.

I am with you Accum, I never would have thought wool would work on a DA either. It would seem the nap of wool would "absorb" the throw of the machine while osillating (sp?) and so the only action you would get would be the slow rotation of the pad. It seems it would be too slow to really amount to much correction.

Well one day you may try it and be amazed what the Flex can do. Is it slower? Who knows the answer since you can cut out a step.

though you can't see the results up close, here's a video someone using the Flex with what looks to be a wool pad...

YouTube - FLEX XC 3401VRG

YouTube - P1013775

These videos aren't doing much to impress me with the Flex being used for compounding. The 2nd video is 2:30 on just one section. Is it me or does that seem like a long time?

Also the technique the guy is using on the first video is pretty bad, no? He's basically all over the place and again it takes him a long time to work such a small section. Oh yeah that polishing pad isn't very well centered either. The DA almost jumped onto the hood when he started it right up. They make variable speed triggers for those things for a reason there big fella...

I think tdekany makes the best point about using wool and the flex in that it could potentially remove a whole polishing step. Perhaps then spending 2-3 minutes on a 2x2 area is beneficial? I know with M105 and wool on a rotary I can work that same area 2-3 times as fast but it obviously leaves more marring and holograms than the Flex.

Just my random thoughts. I'm very intrested in this thread. Keep up the excellent discussion and recommendations!

I'd still like to see what a Surbuf can do on the Flex...

Thomas, by no means am I saying you are wrong, I am just saying it surprises me wool works on the Flex with wool having a such a nap which (in my head) would seem to take away form the osillation of the Flex on only leave rotation which is much slower than the rotation of a rotary.

Are you able to cut out a step because the Flex will not hologram like a rotary?

Flex plus PFW has always been a winning combo for me (PO203S with minimal hologramming on soft black clears). I will have to try the Flex with the black wool pads...
