Edge vs. SIP

From what I understand Aaron (Ive been trying to get into contact with you) is that the foam is the same yes.. but the process the foam goes through is quite different. LC has a closed cell structure.

Your pads go through a different process and come out as "durafoam".

The closed cell format of LC's foam keeps much more of the product on the surface of the foam pad itself. With your (Edge) foam, the product tends to "soak" up most of the product and not leave much on the surface of the pad.

I tried your green and blue and orange Edge foam pads, and it was a disaster using those with SIP. It was squeeling all over the place, it smelled like a "burning" smell, etc....

Now I have not had this problem with 106ff and blue edge, I just need to use 3 times more product to prime the pad. On the LC pads, I prime with 4 dots of product, and use 2 dots every application thereafter.

Now Im not bashing your foam Aaron, you make a great product! Unfortunately it does not work well with the polishes I use most. However I did custom order some wool pads from you and I hope to clarify this issue because your system is really an outstanding system.

As far as the foam processing is concerned, this is just what Ive gathered from making many phone calls and talking to different people as far as foam is concerned.

So yes, they are the same foam, but they are very very different as well.

Jim

I have used edge and Menzerna nearly exclusively. I do not have a problem with either working with the other. It does not dust, spray or sling for me. As for needing more to prime the pad, well I don't know about that as my pads are all edge. Though the guy i work with uses css. He has to prime about the same amount from what i can see.

I tend to wash my pads about every 2 weeks. In between times i use the brush cleaner and store in a baggie.

I understand your comments but you don't seem to know the depth of our line. We have so many types of foam and textures. We have all the same ones LC has closed and open cell, prepolymer and polyester, waffle and flat, 8inch, 6inch,4 inch, single sided double sided, wool and foam, so it all depends on which foam you personally like and choose to use. The general statement that Edge pads don't work with a particular chemical is just not accurate, and you will even find that some people can use the pads you have problems with without issues at all which means that technique also plays into this. We don't claim to own the market on foam, just a better designed pad. All the buffing pad companies buy their foam from the same sources, its the shape, and attaching that makes our pads unique.

Aaron thanks for the reply! I understand when you say technique plays a role but Ive applied enough polishes to enough pads to know what I'm doing.

You say you guys offer closed cell foam, where can I get some of that? The green and orange that I purchased absolutely do not keep the polish on the surface of the pad like the closed cell LC pads do.... I dont open and closed foam on your website...

There is clearly a difference in your pads vs. LC's pads, I know you say you use the same foam, and Im sure you do, but somewhere down the line, your pads and LC's pads change. I mean its clear as day the second you use them. Nothing against your pads man, again, I love them. I have some wool on order as well from you guys.

I just absolutely cannot use them with SIP polish. It makes this really scary screaching sound and its terrifying. It gums up the polish and leaves residue on the paint and it also smells like "burning".

Grouse - I believe you are the only guy around here that has had success with SIP and Edge foam. Seriously. Have you really tried it?

Im not here to cause trouble or create arguments, I really really do like your pads Aaron, but you absolutely cannot say that your Edge foam is the same as LC's foam. You just cannot.

I have, and quite extensively. I am not one for a pissing match. So i will simply state i have no issues with it.

Grouse, looks great! I had the same exact level of correction with it, BUT, I had some MAJOR MAJOR issues with it as well.

I am not one for a pissing match, but Aaron cant tell me that those edge pads are the same as LC man. I really like the Edge line but you are the only one I have ever talked to that used edge and SIP without problems.

Again, nice work man!

Jim

Thank you Aaron for replying!

I have also encountered this problem with Just Menzerna SIP on foam 2k pads. I have been using the Edge pads for years now and was the one who started the edge wool pad frenzy here on this site:) I think we are all crazy about the 2k wool system. I think it is the best system. I also have been using Presta polishes since 1993. The day the edge/presta pads came out I was in my glory. Never had a problem with that system ever!!! I still use it this day and pass it on to other detailers that I like.

I see that you say you have different types of foams and open/closed cells also. I would love to fix this little polish issue, (figures it has to be the one polish that works the best). If you need any help please feel free to email me or my phone number is on my profile page.

I have had excellent results with other polishes on your pads. You have to remember it is the SIP polish that is finicky only, but with the right setup it is mind blowing. I am sure you will give us the results we are all waiting for with the right pad to use with SIP. I think everyone is just wanting to use the edge system with this polish cause the pads are easy to use, perfectly balanced, and easy to change over.

I think people are just complaining cause they are depressed and want to use your system badly with this polish. I know you will have this system perfected with the right pad to use for all of us and we will all be happy and bragging.

Thank you Aaron and any questions feel free to get in touch.

Thanks

Ryan

I have been using Menzerna PO85RD3.02 and PO106FF/FA with both reticulated foam and non reticulated foam. Both with great success.

Good to hear porta!

Anyways, I spoke to Aaron online for about an hour the other day and man this guy is one class act! He answered every single question I had for him and offered his own personal advice as well.

Truly great customer service and a great guy to chat with.

So even though some of us have had problems with SIP and Edge2K pads, rest assured, Aaron is working hard to please each and every person that invests money in his products.

Just wanted to get that out there.

Jim
