ebay clay, anyone use it???? results??

Gotta love this place... none of my friends would understand a discussion on the grade and manufacturing of auto clay :D Anyways, great thread, I'll look back to see if any new infos come back up :)

Ok here is an update. I had a long time customer that needed a car done so I went out on Saturday to clean it. It was a silver accord in pretty good condition. There wasn't a huge amount of stuff on the paint overall but behind the wheels and the rear had a good amount. I used a piece of the bar on the car, using DP4n1 as a lube. I felt the sonus green clay would have done the trick but mainly wanted to see if the clay marred. I would have preferred a dark vehicle and will try again this week but if it marred, I didn't notice it. It's definately not as aggressive as some medium purple shiner monkey bars I had bought last year. I still need time on a black vehicle to see it further. My feelings right now are that it should do the trick on most vehicles with limited or no marring. I'll still use my Sonus green clay for upkeep on most of my customers vehicles but when I needed a little more bite I have this. Certainly buy 1 to 5 bars to test before buying a huge lot. But at roughly a $1 an ounce shipped this is lowest I've paid for clay ever.

me 2.....so far one reported its good......huh bigfoot

I'm not saying that *that* particular clay is good, but it looks awfully similar to the one I have that I bought for 20bucks. But let me tell you, if it is the same, I highly, and I mean highly, encourage everyone to get it! No matter what kind of lube you use: car soap or QD it will owrk beautifly! I used it with Meg's QD and Mother's Showtime, no problems at all! Will hold great, and will clean better!

Thanks for the review! Can't wait to see the results on a darker car!

Joey:thx

This clay looks much like a clay I picked up at a local store the other day. I see in the ebay description, that it indicates that Blue Mist is a good combination lubricant with the clay. The funny thing is, the clay I bought has the same exact recommendation. It was also sitting right next to a clay magic kit, however, this clay was cheaper, and all I needed was the clay. If that ebay clay, and the clay I have are infact the same, then this stuff is pretty good. However, I would like to note, that I have not tested the clay on a dark vehicle, only white, silver, and gold.

all clay looks the same....until you use it, you wont know....and I have yet to use it lol

I agree with that 100%, but as far as I've read here, there's only 1 or 2 clay manufacturers in the world, so I won't be surprised if it's something we've all used!

Used it on a black truck tailgate this morning. Worked well didn't notice any marring. Hopefully others will post their results.

i think all of us talking about this clay is surely gonna get the ebay seller some new customers to try that clay.....

So this is the email i got back from them...

Ill do my best to give you a little clearer information on this product. The

grey clay we are selling is actually an Auto Magic product. It was produced

for a private brand company (went out of business) that wanted a clay that

was more aggressive than the blue and less aggressive then the red. They

closed it out and we purchased the inventory. It will not be produced again

as it is in-between aggressiveness.

When used with a quality lubricant that has allot of lubricity, like our

Blue Mist(http://www.pacificprodux.com/DP232-01.html), this 200 gram medium

grade clay bar is mildly abrasive and safe for all surfaces. It will loosen

and safely remove all forms of dirt and contaminants when used correctly.

Correctly, means light pressure, lots of lubricant and a 50% overlap just

like you would use any other clay by Auto Magic. This clay is more

aggressive than any standard over the counter clay currently marketed

through auto parts stores. It is similar to the aggressiveness of the Red

Auto Magic Clay sold to detailers nationally.

>From the explanation on our website:

Pull off a 1/4 chunk of the clay bar, pancake flat and prepare to remove the

contaminants. Apply the lubricant liberally and wipe the bar allowing the

clay to glide gently over the paint, glass, fiberglass, chrome and or other

slick surfaces. Wipe the clay over the surface, one pass with 50% overlap

until the panel is smooth to the touch. As the clay bar picks up

contaminants it will show the dirt. Fold into itself creating new flat

surfaces until you have exhausted its usefulness. Pull off another piece of

clay if needed to complete the job. Use a towel to wipe away the excess

lubricant and feel the silky smooth finish. If by chance the lubricant

dries, re spray with new lubricant and wipe off to a high shine.

** Note: Do not push down on the clay bar as you remove contaminants letting

the clay and lubricant do the removal. If you feel the clay sticking apply

more lubricant and continue.

Whatever you do, don't drop the clay on the ground! This 200 gram bar will

clean approximately two full size cars. Store in a closed container or zip

lock bag when not in use.

This detailing clay, surface preparation bar was manufactured by Auto Wax

Company makers of Clay Magic the #1 leader in eraser bars for your car.

Hopefully this helps you further explain the use of this clay.

bought it. tried it. compared to mothers yellow bar this grey bar is noticeably stiffer. I used it with mothers and adam's detail spray on a heavily oxidized and abused paint surface...a yellow '79 CJ7 that has been repainted with single stage. it worked best when I continualy warmed the clay with my hands. I would not use it on my maintianed vehicle but it will be ok as a first step before swirl/scratch removal. for heavy work this clay worked pretty good and left the surface clean and slick with only a little marring. I assume the stiffness keeps some of the contaminants on the surface of the bar as apposed to a soft bar that does a better job of absorbing the contaminants. I did a section with mothers yellow clay and it took more work to clean the paint.

i didnt like it...used it today...

scuffed more than sonus grey, was about the same aggressiveness maybe a little less actually, and was hard as hell to mold....i tried it on a 2x2 section and tossed it back in the box...its going to be a wheel and glass clay only for me....
