Not a major project but I really like this car! One step with rupes fine gell,on yellow pad, sealed with polymer net sheild. I am really liking this product. A little bit of a learning curve but excellent durability.

Schweeet...

What tips can you suggest for applying the SONAX Polymer Net Shield. I just bought some for my 2010 black GT-R.

I do a half a panel at a time, spray a small amount on a foam applicator and apply. Then I wipe it right off after a few seconds. It is not the easiest to wipe off but not that bad. Have plenty of towels also. I use about 6 or 8 on a car.

throw em out after or wash em or soak in apc and wash ?

Thanks Mike. Very helpful. I plan to experiment next weekend. How did you prep the surface after polishing, before you applied Net Shield? Did you wash the car again, etc.

Was there any remaining wax left on the car. Have you had any experience or problems applying it over other products? You mentioned that you use 6 - 8 MF towels. Is Net Shield like Opti-coat where you just throw away the towels, because they are rock hard after wiping off the product.

my first amg was an 2003 in a little darker gray. love those cars. have found netshield too. put on neighbors red gmc and looks fabulous.

I use that many towels because it tends to load up in the towels and not wipe off cleanly. You can just wash towels as usual. I apply it right after polishing with no problem. It is a sealant just like any other as far as process. You will notice it takes more effort to wipe off,but the look is worth it!

Mike,

I applied the Sonax Polymer Net Shield on my 2010 black GT-R this past weekend.

Car was washed (multiple times with Dawn) and then clayed; swirl marks removed; lightly polished / "jeweled"; rewashed, and then each panel was wiped down with IPA (10%) solution.

I read your suggestions and I also contacted Sonax on how best to apply it. Here’s what they wrote “After polishing, it is a good idea to clean the surface of residue. Alcohol wash will work or a more astringent cleaner. If you use good car wash, that will not remove residue. It is too "soft". Glass cleaner like Windex will work...SONAX uses that formula as their lubricant for clay bars believe it or not. It is highly recommended to apply the Net Shield FIRST before any wax coating. The Net Shield will bond much better to the surface AND provide a much flatter, plained surface than Carnauba wax products will. ”

I found that you need to do a good job of making sure the foam applicator is well primed / saturated with product. After that, application is pretty straight forward and I worked a 2 x 2 section at a time and immediately buffed that area. It is a bit of a challenge to buff, but near the end I was finding more success when I didn't fold the MF towel in 4, and just used the towel "open". The product seemed to blend better, and then you can flip the towel to buff.

The car looks really good. Adds a nice depth to the black paint, and a really nice shine.

I drove for 2 hours in the rain on Monday and had a chance to check out the beading effect. Stellar!

I have to give it 5 stars -

I agree with the towel part. After using it a few times. A thinner open towel makes it much easier to buff off. I wouldn't use a heavy thick 600g/m towel or something like that.
