Is there any difference between The Absorber and the other sponge cloths out there (like the Baja Sol-branded version at Target, or Turtle Wax's Miracle Towel)? They all look pretty similar. I'm guessing the Target one is just a repackaged Absorber.
 
Not sure about the info you are looking for on the absorber but I had the ab. and then tried the Water Bandit. I perfer the WB over the Ab. Maybe run a search on the WB before reaching into your pocket for the cash? Just thought I'd throw that wrench out there. :)
 
I have the Absorber and "Fireman's Friend" (what else would a firefighter have? :D) brands of synthetic chamois...both of them work well.
 
Get the Big Blue MF towel from CMA....it is better than the WB or Absorber or anything else I have come across to date!

I have 7 or 8 different brands including Griots, P21S, Absorber, Water Bandit, Baja-Sol, Meguiars, and some others. I like the Water Bandit the best of all of them. It has the nicest texture and feel and is less "grippy and sticky" when pulled against a surface. (I don't use it that way but that is one facet of the test I did) It also absorbs the most water per square inch. I did a comprehensive test last year but don't have access to the stats right now. It has a "waffle" texture where most of the others are smooth.



They all rate pretty close and I don't dislike any of them but the WB was just a step ahead.:xyxthumbs

I use the PVA Sponge CLoth from Target and I love it! It blots up water and leaves no spots! It doesn't get moldy and you just ring it out and keep using it!

IMO, much better(and cheaper) than the Absorber!!

;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Absorber typically sells for $7.99-$9.99 at Walmart, etc. It's on sale for $7.99 at Kragen right now.



Target baja-sol I forgot how much that was. They have two different versions of what looks like the same sponge cloth too, which makes things even more confusing.

sock, my absorber got really moldy at one point. i just threw it into the wash and cleaned out the container and it's as good as new. did you throw yours away because it was moldy?
 
I have never experienced any mold problems with any of the brands yet. I have had most of them for at least two to three years.



I find the Absorber and Target branded items "very" similar if not identical. The act the same in all my tests.

I actually still have it.

The fist time I noticed the mold, I threw it in the washer. I also cleaned the container and treated it with Lysol.

I used it again, and the next time I took it out of the tube, the mold was even worse than the first time!!
 
The P21S drying towel does not mold up or dry out. Those were the important features which lead me to purchase this synthetic chamois or others and natural chamois. It works great but requires a little technique to master efficient drying.

You're right, it doesnt get moldy or dry out, and I think it does a slightly better job of drying than the Absorber. However, the container that it comes in has sharp edges that will wear out the towel in short order. I'd recommend keeping it in a ziplock bag or some other sort of container..or file the edges of that P21 box. Others have complained about that container too. Otherwise a decent towel.

blkZ28Conv, would you please explain your technique for using a P21S drying towel? I purchased one a couple weeks ago, but I can't seem to get the hang of using it. The towel just sticks to itself like a big wad of scotch tape and doesn't seem to pick up much water.
 
I use a blotting technic. When I do a final rinse I remove the hose head and allow the majority of the H2O to sheet off the car. I than blot with the flat P21S towel which absorbs the remaining water and follow with a 100% cotton towel. Using this method I avoid rubbing any solid material that may remain in the sheeted residue. When using the P21S in a rubbing motion I have found that it works best if it is slightly pre-saturated. This may require more wringing per panel but the slight amount of water seems to act as a lubricant and absorption stimulator. Sounds crazy but this is the same method I used for natural chamois. When this type of material is dry or only slightly moist it can be a pain to work with. Hang in there, when I first got my P21S drying towel I almost threw in the inactive shelve because of its similiarities to natural chamois. But after using the technics I mentioned plus the non-molding and non-drying storage properties of this product I saw the light. Hope this helps.
