dust

yeah it is very dark...a rich navy blue. still, i was expecting the 425 to do something. i think next time i wash i will do what was suggested on here and before i dry a panel spray the 425 on first and then dry the panel at the same time the 425 comes off. i hate dust!

This may seem, or actually be, a stupid question. Are you sure it is the garage? I know you said you washed and put it in the garage - I assume immediately, but could it have sat outside for a while?

The reason I mention this is your problem seems extreme and in my case I usually do not notice dust until the morning due to the angle of the light. My car is in a parking lot all day and garaged at night. It always looks good to me when I park it in the garage and then the next morning - DUST. In my case the dust was there when I parked it but it was not noticable.

Just a thought...

yeah actually the morning is when i notice it the most for sure, due to the light. it sits in a parking garage during the day and a garage/garage at night. but the garage at my house is more like a lean-to garage than a really nice one, but still i don't know if the 2x4s the garage is made of can just produce dust randomly or what (i doubt it), but it feels like the last garage i had that was a nice one in an apartment never ever gave me this much dust.

Just to see if there is any improvement with the 425 you could just do half a panel next time its fairly clean or after you wash. Give it a night or two and if nothing else the 425 should make it fairly better, at least from what I hear.

Unfourtanetly I have not tried FK425 yet so I cant comment on it other than that it seems to improve looks at the very least. Been recovering from hip surgery so I've had to hold off on buying many things I want, but the 425 will probably be the first thing I order

.......as for the 425, i wish i had not bought it. it is actually that completely useless. if anyone has any comments feel free to post them...........
I think you're being too harsh on the 425. It might not solve this particular extreme dust problem, but it is an excellent QD that if you want to sell will have no problem finding a buyer.

To take that experiment one step further lay a clean MF or WW on part of the hood, roof, or trunk after you put the car in the garage for the night. Once you find out for sure that your garage is causing the problems then you can take steps to correct or at least minimize it.

I'd rule out the plywood ceiling breaking down and 'dusting' in the volumes you're conveying to us. Along with what others are saying about testing half-panels for best results, also do this with other vehicles left outside, and under the car-port all at the same time. Get three white MF and do a single wipe of each vehicle of the same length. Examine each MF for dust comparisons. If one is significantly more than the other, than you've got to figure out why. If they're all the same ... it's in your air and you're going to have to live with it. (Hopefully it's seasonal pollen and ends soon)

Hope this helps you find an answer ... tell us the results. It should be interesting as you're doing a multitude of tests - which products repel dust, better than others and we'll know if it's your garage, or equally dispersed in the air regardless of the garage, car-port or open-air.

I hate dust as much as you. Would detail the car and next day its dusty. I have yet to find a solution other than keeping some MF on hand to wipe it off. It comes off very easy. The 425 wont solve the problem, but will make your car really gloss (when theres no dust of course)/ Just cant escape those little creeps.

I just wish there was a product that would at least let the dust slide off when you take a drive....

hey guys sorry for the delay. it rained yesterday so tonight i will wash and try the microfiber idea in the garage and i will then try it again outside. i will let you guys know the results.

so maybe the 2nd time was a charm. the 425 looks to be repelling a lot more dust this time than last. i don't know why that is?

i am doing the microfiber over one part of the roof each day and even though i just washed the car on monday, have yet to see any noticeable difference in dust accumulation between the covered and non-covered part on the roof. the roof is black so if any of the car were to accumulate dust and it be noticeable, that would be the place.

i'll keep you guys updated, but usually after one day there is noticeable dust on the car.

any reason why the 425 didn't work the first time? i'm really baffled. i used a weird spray bottle that only shot in streams the first time, and then switched to one that misted it, so maybe the first time there was not a clean layer of 425 on all the paint?

A real mystery...

I would suggest that weather and/or local pollen/dust conditions may be the answer here. I like FK425 and use it regularly - but it will not completely eliminate dust. Seems to me you may have just had high dust conditions a few days ago (be glad it is not your garage creating dust) and the rain cleared things up. The difference is more which day you applied the FK425 rather than it is now working better than a few days ago.

That seems the most logical explanation to me.

When there are bad conditions for dust/pollen it can accumulate quickly and thickly.

perhaps, but it really seemed like the 425 did nothing last time. i mean it dusted just like it always does without the 425. there is a significant improvement this time over last.
