Dust on car

As long as you dry it immediately after washing(as long as it's 100% clean). If you drive it home and then wipe it down (even with QD) you're opening youself up to problems.

Cool, thanks!

If my car has been recently waxed I just use my California Duster and then follow up with some Quickshine to give it some slickness and enhance the gloss.

This is ALL that is needed. Wait until the cars is cooled off and as long as you have a decent coat of wax, the dust will come right off with the California Duster and leave NO scratches. I do this literally every night and I haven't washed my car for almost a month and it looks just waxed. I also do a QD after I dust it to keep it slick.

Cali duster and QD works for me.

Unless your PUSHING hard on the duster, how the heck would you cause marring? I make sure I softly glide the fibers of the duster with no pressure so that it picks up the dust. I'm NOT wiping the duster on the paint.

Misuse would be the only thing I can think of for poor results.

Just for over-analyzed argument's sake, if you're touching the finish with the duster, you're wiping the duster on the paint (the dust isn't jumping onto the duster). There's a fair amount of friction there. Where does the QDing come into play? I assume after you wipe the dust off with the duster? I'm glad this process is working for you. Have you ever closely looked at your finish under magnified light to make sure the finish is ok?

you guys are splitting hairs here. i have used the two bucket/two cotton towl method for years. it works fine with little or no marring IF you have just dust and good wax on. i do a section at a time. wipe with soaked (but not dripping) towel. rinse in second bucket, ring out till damp. rewipe thw same section. then dry. yea it takes a little time but i can do it in the garage and don't have to dump water on a clean just dusty finish.:nana:

Your method is different than QDing or dusting. I don't think anyone would disagree with you that a careful wash with two buckets and two towels is a good approach. You're essentially suggesting a no-rinse car wash, which many Autopians swear by (Scottwax). Not sure what you're getting at here...

I'm so concerned about marring, I'll rarely used a duster, don't use a QD when dusty and am hesitant to put the cover on if the car is too dusty. My guess is that if you have a car that doesn't show scratches, like a silver, then any micromarring may be acceptable to that person, but with a darker colored car, you've got the possibility of seeing the scratches. Of course, on a silver car, the dust really doesn't show either, LOL!
