Duragloss #253 discontinued? Carquest thinks so.

Well after reading about Duragloss #253 tire dressing, I thought I'd visit 2 Carquest stores in search of it. Both I went to said it disappeared from their systems some time ago and is no longer available. I then called 3 more which were a distance from me, none of them had it on the shelf or could order it/find it in their system.

What's going on? Anyone able to walk in and get this stuff?

at the company website:

Available sizes:

#253 19 oz $9.29

#251 8 oz $5.89

#252 Gallon $41.80

#254 64 oz $24.85

I order mine online and haven't heard anything about it being discontinued. It may be that Carquest or the stores in your area are simply not carrying it anymore. I know Duragloss product in general are a rare find (OTC) everywhere I've been.

I don't think it's been discontinued, but CQ sure wants to think that's the case. I'd love to get a couple of the items but no one really has anything, and the ones that do have faded labels and dusty bottles. ugh.

2 of the stores I called were in St. Louis MO, just a few miles from the distribution hub.

I'd order online, but I don't go through a whole lot of my stuff, and I absolutely dislike ordering say, $16 of items and paying 9-11 for shipping.

Since I couldn't remember for sure, I tried adding one 19 oz. bottle to my cart and selected Texas. Shipping = $5.00. Then I removed it and added 5 gallons of the stuff and updated my cart. Shipping = $5.00. So then I selected several other states and updated my cart. Shipping = $5.00. I seem to remember reading on here that shipping is a flat $5.00 no matter what your order consists of. Hope this helps!

Found a Federated Auto store a few towns away, they had the 253 along with a lot of the products at reasonable prices. Might get a few more this weekend. Finally. :)

Guys, is this #253 dressing matte or glossy? Thanks.
I would say more "matte" or "satin" depending how much you knock it down. If you ever used 303 on rubber/plastic surfaces, it's a bit similar in how it finishes IMO/IME.

I wouldn't use glossy anywhere in my description of #253. What it has going for it is durability. Even after a few rains it still looks great.

I dunno.... I think it can be glossy depending on the tire....

Dan, I tend to stop using tire dressing once the snow starts falling. I find that the residual salt (dust) on dry pavement tends to stick in a bad way to the tire gloss leaving tires with a whitish appearance.

It sounds like the #253 is a "drier" product and tends to last longer. Do you think it would be a good choice for the winter months or have you found something better?

Thx.
