Durable wax on top of KSG?????

Hey everyone

Newbie to the forums and autopia site. About a month ago I went through all the steps of the "perfect shine" on my black 99 Trans Am and was very happy with the results. Surface is still smooth but it isnt beading like is was a month ago - assuming this is due to the P21s wearing off. My question is what is a good wax to put on top of the KSG that is more durable and is there anything i should do to prep the surface before applying?
 
Collinite 845 Insulator Wax should be more than durable enough.



As long as your paint is still in excellent condition, you can just apply 845 over what is on there now.
 
People layer the KSG for added protection. I was never happy with the product because it was hard to work with. The ultimate topping I've been using is Meg's #16, lasts a long time, beads like crazy and shines up even silver cars. The only caveat is finding, it's so good the government made them stop making it, just like solvent based paints and the good insecticides. They let big rigs and buses belch black smoke but one can of wax every two years and the world has to stop, arghhhh!

With #16 getting pretty hard to find, I'd probably go with something from Collinite. I haven't tried it on black, but their 476S lasts a long, long time. Maybe that with Souveran over top of it would work, it looked pretty good on the Volvo.

Yup if you can find it #16 get's my vote. Picked up 4 cans when SM had them in stock.
 
Apparently Megs #16 is alive and well and still being made for the UK - for once you guys in the USA will be importing it from us! :brit
 
What I've found to be pretty durable (for a wax, anyway):





1. FK1 1000p (Hy Temp mold release wax)

2. Meguiar's #16 (if you can find it)

3. Clearkote Carnuaba Moose wax

4. Optimum spray wax

5. FK1 Pink Wax

6. Hi Temp Bahama Mama

7. Hi Temp Fine Finish

I checked with Meguiars and they do not make #16 anywhere in the world, period. But they could be lying, so what's a good online source for #16 in the UK that will ship across the pond?
 
i use 845 over blitz wax and get a durable shine and great beading especially with acid rain and pollutants from kodak smokestacks down the street from me.
 
thanks for the suggestions everyone, looks like i will be trying to locate some Megs #16, if not i will probably be going for the collinite
 
It will be much easier to find 476S than Meg's #16, IMHO 476S outlasts #16, but #16 is more wet and gloss. You can use the Collinite combo 476S and topped with 845IW for maximum wettness and durability.
