Durability and Mini Review of Glanz

Answer#2- What jaobrien6 said, *plus* the way the water that runs off seems to take a lot of dirt with it. When I was sorta abusing the Volvo (outside 24/7, winter use, etc.) by hardly ever washing it, it would still look awfully clean all the time. A hard rain (and/or the melting of a heavy layer of snow) worked sorta like a touchless car wash.

Okay, that's what I thought. Oddly enough, I find that the absolute best *self cleaning* combo for me so far is EX + Souveran. We had a really hard rain here just two days ago and the next day I glanced at my Expedition and it looked like I just detailed it!

#16 is probably one of the only waxes I haven't gotten around to trying yet, but I might start very soon because I'm looking for something more durable on my dad's 04' F150.

Quick question â€â€œ anyone try 1Z Express Polish underneath GW? Just curious because I have a new pint in the shop and havenâ€â„¢t played with it. I do know it contains carnauba . . .

No worries. There are not any issues at all. The silver car in the pictures above has MP, which is very similar to Express (same?), under the GW.

Heh heh, I'm always amazed at the differences in experience! I use Souveran on my XJS, and for me it it does *not* self-clean! Could have to do with all the heat from the Jag V12, but my Souveran gets almost "tacky" feeling after a while. Still use it on that car though, just *love* the look. Come to think of it, it sorta got tacky on an Audi I used it on too :nixweiss Maybe having the EX under it makes a difference.

You know, I think you might be right about that because I put Souveran on my dad's F150 without any other sealant or protectant under it and it didn't look nearly as good, didn't last as long, and didn't self clean at all after rains. It actually looked pretty bad after a good rain so I think having EX under it actually helps Souveran perform better, if that makes sense. :nixweiss

I have been very impressed with the 1z products I have used so far, I absolutely love Perls and LF, Perls is all I use on my car (besides QEW in the winter :( )

I need to try the polishes and GW sometime :)

N2space, you will freak out when you try 1zMP with a polishing pad. It's that good. I have yet to try Glanz yet for fear of it altering the look of the MP, but it's next on my list...

grt1today,

I've compared S100 and GW side-by-side on my hood and I couldn't "see" any noticable difference between the two on metallic silver. The S100 was smoother but they both applied easily and buffed right off. The whole hood was prepped with MPW by the way!

That's GRT news to hear Macgirl, I think I will order some Glanz soon so I can check out the look and protection. BTW if you still haven't got a chance to try the WPS yet, let me know. I will be happy to send you some as soon as I open the container. I'm hoping that's as soon as next week to be honest, but it might not be until spring. It all depends on the weather :( Once I tried the MP, I just knew I had to buy the WPS at any cost...

Thanks for the offer but I did get to try a sample of WPS out this fall. WOW, I loved the look of that stuff and again the GW didn't diminish the glow in any way, well at least none I could detect with my eye.

I too have been recently impressed with a lot of the 1Z products & last weekend I had an opportunity to try Glanz & I must say I was very pleasantly suprised. With some great advice from a fellow UK Autopian (thanks Craig) I applied it by via a spray bottle to an MF applicator treating a panel at a time & letting it haze for a minute or so, wipe off with an MF & hey presto, a super slick finish with great reflection. It's about as easy to apply as anything I've tried & I'm really pleased with the brilliance of the shine.

Both cars I tried it on are dark coloured clear coats, going to try on Silver this weekend,

Is it worth topping with P21S or Natty's?

I hadn't noticed the swirl removing properties of the 1Z MP. Maybe I need to give it another go...

Does MP have carnuba in it? I'm asking because I'm a fan of AIO to EX-P, but if I could get some swirl filling with MP and then go straight to EX-P, I might try that...

...I thought that MP had some carnuba in it, otherwise I would have tried this sooner. Has anyone tried topping MP with a sealant other than Glanz Wax?

MP is pretty mild, I use either one of Meguiars 80 series polishes or Poorboy's SSRs first and use MP as the final glaze. MP does contain wax protection but I am not 100% sure it is in fact carnauba.

MP/GW is hard to beat on metallic paints.

bet003- Posts like yours always tempt me to try GW :D BTW, your "Autopina lite" approach sounds very sensible :xyxthumbs

Pats300zx- I'm sure you've already heard my $0.02 on the 1Z polishes :o but anyhow...when it comes to being user-friendly and effective, IMO the 1z stuff is miles ahead of Meg's.

Seeing how much you like the polishes, I'm surprised you haven't tried Glanz!! But even though I love Glanz, it's PP and MP that I think really stand out.

Scott, I got it straight from 1Z in Germany, MP DOES contain carnauba, plus other natural waxes.

And I definitely have to agree with your last sentence: MP/GW work beautifully on metallics (**and I think "medium" metallics look the best with Glanz, better than even silver or light gold).

Pats300zx - I have to echo what Accumulator says. The 1Z polishes are the most user friendly polishes I have ever used. Of the Meg's polishes I have used I think PP is less agressive than DACP (can't compare it to Ultra because I have not used it) but much more user friendly in that it doesn't require another polishing phase and MP is more effective than Swirl Remover 2.0 (along with being super easy to use). Personally I don't think you can go wrong with the 1Z polishes.

I love 1Z polishes as the PP is stronger than #80 and leaves a ready for LSP finsh better than DACP. I also agree it a little less agressive than DACP, but I usually can get almost the same results. MP Pro does work better than #9. They are more user friendly because they contain more oils which allows you to work them in longer. I do find myself sometimes going for Menzerna or Poorboys because I don't want any fillers. Either way I still can get the same results with Megiuars. I like 1Z better, but IMO its not a whole worlds better which you have to run out and buy now.

I end up using polishes from 3M, Menzerna, 1z, and Meg's (only #80). Seems one line or another is usually *just* what I want for a particular detail. Nice to have options.

MP is *very* mild. Too mild to do any correction on any of my vehicles except for *very* light work on the Jag (extra soft lacquer). The pink "consumer" MP in the rectangular can has both carnauba and other waxes in it. No carnauba in the Pro version in the round 1 liter can (and it doesn't protect as long when untopped). The Pro version has slightly stronger abrasives but still not enough to correct my paints. I use the Pro MP for the final polish on my "good" car and top it with UPP. I no longer use the consumer MP or WaxPolishSoft (well, not often but I'll eventually use up the WPS I have).

Eh, I'm in a "not broke/don't fix" mode with regard to LSPs. GW just doesn't really fit into what I'm doing with our current selection of vehicles.
