Dude! You're gettin' a Metabo!

So I'm about ready to drop the cash on a rotary, but I need some suggestions for backing plates and wool pads.

I've got a plethora of foam pads, have read some really positive stuff on the Edge wool pads, but none of the regular online detailing shops seem to carry them, just foam. Any place to get these online?

In terms of a backing plate to use with my 6.5" foam pads, any recommendations?

Thanks!

If your getting the Metabo, it is a great choice. As far as wool pads, check out ProWax.com. They have a 50/50 wool synthetic blend pad that works well for most polishing. I also like their yellow waffle foam pad. Their pads are very well made, and the price is good too. If you buy the polisher from TOL, they have a flexible backing plate that fits the Pro pads nicely. The backing plate should fit your 6.5 pads too.

P.S. Great choice on the rotary! I love it since I bought mine a few weeks ago!! I know you will not be disappointed

well i went ahead and ordered the metabo (from AllProTools - thanks for the link again, Scott!), an LC durastrand pad (yellow) and flexible backing plate that should work for both the metabo's 7.5" and my existing 6.5" pads, as well as a few upkeep items from TOL... And some Optimum Polish that everyone seems to love so much :) TOL wants $60+ more for the metabo!!

I wasn't too sure about which wool pads from prowax, though the prices sure seem reasonable, so I stuck with just the durastrand pad for now. I'd really like to get my hands on some of these edge wool pads, though - they sound pretty good.

Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes. I've got a couple of project cars in mind :)

I ordered the Metabo from allprotools.com and they sent me an E-Mail the next day saying that the item I ordered was out of stock and that it would be 7-10 days before they would get it back in stock. They also sent me their phone number and told me that if it was a problem or wanted to cancel my order they would be more than happy to assist me. I wanted the thing so I never called. 4 days later it arrived on my doorstep shipped via 2nd day air. WOW!!!! This place is amazing at customer service and thier prices can't be beat!

Cool man, since I have a huge rip through my door where a guy in a wagon pulled out of a parking spot I am hoping it will get here that quickly. I want to do some damage to the paint on it before my appointment to have it repaired on the 26th.

lol, i'd like to see the look on the tech's face when you tell him..

"oh yeah, i tried to buff out that foot long gash in the sheet metal with some new optimum compound.. its great stuff but not upto snuff for this job ;P"

hahaha, I just got an out of stock message from allprotools.com so it looks like I may not be able to work on my door. I guess I can keep the door once they replace it, but how are you supposed to dispose of something like that when you're done?
