Drove the new 2006 Lexus GS!

I haven't seen the M45 yet but would like to, you seem to have liked it better, what specifically about it?

I was impressed with the head and legroom in the Infiniti. I found a comfortable position in this vehicle with absolutely no problem. That's an accomplishment for someone that is 6'3.5" and 360 lbs.

I also like the driving position of the M versus the GS.

The controls are pretty decent and fall to hand easily.

I am trying to get a test drive of the M45 Sport to see how it performs.

Really, how was the headroom in the back compared to the GS?

I like the Infiniti M performance but the exterior styling is fairly aweful. I think the GS is fairly exciting and stylish.

I was also at the auto show and checked out the GS and M45. I loved the Lexus GS styling, but even for me, the GS legroom was similar to our TLs, which isn't the best (although comfortable, just a little cramped when I'm in the back and dad has the seat all the way back).

On the otherhand, the M45 was very comfortable, and I loved the interior, especially the "Cognac" color of the interior, better than the Lexus. The dash layout was fresh and seemed to be of quality. It appears the M and the GS are competing head on. I was just surprised, like the rest of you, how small the GS interior is compared to it's exterior size and competitors.

I'm 6'1 and I have found the back of our TL pretty comfy. I have heard that there were quite a few problematic 04's! Everything is fixed for 05 thank god (See sig). This is our fourth acura and we have never had problems with any, go figure.

As far as the new RL's go, sweet car, and I have heard absolutely 0 problems from them. In fact they are on backorder at a lot of dealers. Do you have a link online to some complaints?

Yeah its not that the GS (or my ES) are uncomfortable in the rear, they're not its just close. Knees are close to the front seats, you can lean back and cross your legs etc. I think probably the next generation LS will find its way into my driveway...

Looks like someone is trying to be a Nissan...nearly same shape as an Altima, Maxima, G35 Sedan, etc.

Exact same thought came to my mind also. Fortunately Lexus has refined that design and the materials used, durability, dependability will be far superior than Nissan's.

I haven't test drove the Lexus, but recently test drove the Audi A6, Acura Rl, Infinity M45, and BMW 545. Only one of these cars would I even consider giving up my M3 for, and that is the 545. Styling aside (both interior and exterior), this is one hell of a performance sedan. I was stunned at the power, the tight feel of the suspension with the active roll stabilization, the steering feel, and the brakes. I also loved the seats with the sports package. I am 6'4" tall and though the M3 seats are OK they don't fit me like the 545s. My biggest reservation re the 545 is the 550 will come out this fall with 365 HP and 360 ftlbs of torque. This will give it almost M3 type performance.

If I were to purchase a Lexus I would be oriented to the LS430. Luxury all the way. My brother has had one for about 5 years and loves it. We have an RX 330 and that is one comfortable vehicle to ride in.

As far as the other cars I test drove goes, the Acura felt very heavy and underpowered desipite being listed as having 300 HP. The Infinity had all the bells and whistles, but I for one was not wowed with either the driving experience or the perception of quality of this vehicle. The Audi I loved the stying. But the ride was rough and it lacked power - I drove the 3.2 and there were no 4.2 A6s available to test drive. Steering feel was numb and it also felt heavy.

My wife drives a LS400 (94) since new and it has been completely trouble-free and with the exception of some driver seat wear everything else has stood up remarkably well. This is her daily driver and she will not part with it unless I get her a 5 or 7 series BMW or a LS430. I am saving my money. :D

No question there, the 5 series is the undisputed champ in that segment combining handling with a comfortable ride. The new GS comes closer than the old one but its not there yet.

I looked at the car today and I was very impressed. I may drive one later in the week. It looks very sporty, sort of a smaller BMW with Japanese styling influences. The interior is superb, very contemporary and very well done.

My local dealer has only received 5 of them and has sold each one immediately at sticker.

I looked at them again the other day, I really am pleased with the new styling. They had one parked next to an older GS and I think its a huge improvement.

While I'm SURE there is a large quality difference, it looks like the current Maxima. I saw one today and my first though wax Maxima until I actually took a look at it.

That's the problem with car designs today. They all seem to come from the same mold. :(

One must credit Bangle at BMW and Cadillac design group for stepping outside the box with their up-dated designs. Though odd at first, still attractive and in most cases one knows he/she is looking at a BMW or a Cadillac. :bow
