Driving Roads

Anyone ever drive these roads in the USA? Forbes Magazine picked 2 of the best. Sounds like there meant for a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche 911, Corvette, NSX type of car.



Highway 25 in California. This scenic yet off-the-beaten-path route runs by Pinnacles National Monument in Northern California. It includes a wide variety of corners, from slow hairpins to fast sweepers, a smooth road surface and scarce traffic. The perfect sports car road. A second we recently discovered is "Tail of the Dragon" in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. This serpentine section of Highway 129 features 318 turns in just 11 miles. It puts an absolute premium on handling.
 
Hey, I have driven on both those roads, but unfortunately in shushy rental cars. I did H/W 25 in a Caddy back in the early '90s and the Great Smoky Mountains lat '90s in a Mustang with a 6 cylinder. Well the drives were nice.



Come down to Victoria, OZ. We have the Great Ocean Road which is world renown however they have now put speed limits on it which buggers the experience. We also have a road called "The Black Spur" through some of the most beautiful native Aussie forest.
 
Arizona highway 191 from Clifton to Alpine, 100 miles of uninterupted twisties with almost no traffic. Speed limit is 25 most of the way, but nobody out there to enforce it.

Oh man, that road looks like it's begging to be abused 1nate7. I'll bet you have a helluva time out there with that Z...I've always wanted one ever since I saw the concept.
 
There's lots of great roads here in Northern California :). HWY 25 is great, I rode it a while back on my bike from SJ all the way down to Coalinga/King City. Man my butt hurt after than one. IMO Del Puerto Canyon Rd is better, open road, lots of turns, and almost no traffic. Man, I miss my bike :(

New England is no California but the best road that I've been on here was Hwy 100 starting from southern Vermont up to the Canadian border along the Green Mountains (about 170 miles total) in my Porsche 911. Nothing like driving a fast sports car thru the mountains, along the rivers and lakes, in and out of forests, during the fall season.

Ah yes...but in a cab! I'm tackling the Tail of the Dragon in my 2006 Carrera S Cab next month when it gets a little cooler. Can't wait! Rear engine, quick turn-in thrills! :2thumbs:
 
Good topic! Makes me want to get out there and do some driving! Need some more suspension upgrades, but for now what I have will have to do.



I've been wanting to do Hwy 25 ever since I got my car last year. A fun drive through beautiful scenery, a great way to spend the day. Out here we have a stretch of road called Carbon Canyon, not very long but extremely fun, tight turns and open stretches, I use it to test out any suspension work I do. I like Rim of the World Drive, HWY 2, and Glendora Ridge going up to Baldy.
