Dressing tires with brake fluid

Could it be that it "eats" the top layer of rubber and has silicone or an oil in it to make them shine?

Sometimes the only way to clean off a solvent based dressing "browning" is with a solvent. Then redress with a water based product of course.

Not nearly as bad as brake fluid, but I remember using sugar water on tires as tire shine. This is probably 25-30 years ago. I think my dad taught me to do it, and I don't know that there were any true tire shines on the market then. Make then look nice until it rained, was cheap, and obviously, attracted a good number of ants. :) We alwyas kept a bottle sitting in the garage to do them after it rained.

Great story and too funny! I was throwing out a broken push broom handle yesterday and it reminded me of my father talking about playing stickball as a kid.

Stickball, what a great game. A pink ball the size of a tennis ball, thrown at 70 mph and a skinny stick to hit it with. Now that taught hand to eye coordination, and the total investment in sporting goods was about $0.35

It's a PDMS too. But what about the Tributyl phosphate in there. It's listed as an acid though I don't know how strong it is.

I really don't know, but about 99% of the reading material I've found on DOT 5 brake fluid seems to indicate it's safe on paint. Maybe "safe" is relative in this case.

I wouldn't use DOT 5 on my tires, nor would I use it in my brake system.

All the best,

I use it on the tires, sunroof rubber, interior, engine compartment (rubber and plastic stuff).

It has a semigloss finish, and I think it's one of the best products i've used. It's not cheap, but it lasts me quite a while.
