dress tires before or after wash

I was the tires and wheels first.

The last thing that I do is dress the tires.

I really don't know why.

WOW... Most of the time I think before I post...Guess that is just me...:idea

and to answer your question after

I think what he means is after washing your tires, do you dress them immediately then wash the paint or dress them after washing the paint. Atleast I think that is what he meant.

Clean wheels and tires first, then apply the dressing.

Dressings in general should be the very last thing you apply.

I have a few cars I see sometimes weekly or bi-weekly and when doing an ONR wash I'll clean the wheels, dress the tires, then ONR the car. By the time I'm done the tires are dry enough so I can prevent sling as much as possible. Even with using a tire applicator to evenly apply.

I clean the wheels, tires & wheel well first. The last thing I do is dress the tires and any other trim that requires it. I think the reason some guys do it before they wash is because they spray it directly on the tire causing potential over spray. When the vehicle is washed, it would remove any that made it to the paint.

Since I apply it with a sponge, I avoid the situation altogether. FWIW

Yes I understand that.. But why would you dress the tires then wash the rest of the car... Sort of defeats the purpose of dressing the tires.. :nixweiss

Sorry but the way it's worded is poorly at best. Of course you'd only dress nice clean tires... Doing it otherwise is counterproductive... So defiantly after wash... In fact I dress them right before I apply the wax. That anything and everything that could re-contaminate the tires (sling and fling) is done and over with yet it still has a good half hour or so to soak right in and not sling on down the road.

Especially if you're using water-based dressing. :har:

I used to clean them last, but dress before I did the rims. I've changed my methods though.

Ive started using TufShine, so now I do the tires first since it's a clearcoat and not like typical dressings.

If I were to use something else, Id say wash tires first, then the car so you dont get wheel/tire cleaner on the paint from scrubbing and ruin what you've already accomplished.

How do you clean your wheels and tires without using a garden hose?

I assume since you are talking about an ONR wash, you are not using a constant water source. My wheels get so dirty, they need to be sprayed with a cleaner and then hosed off

You have to wash the tire first! DUH I wash the tires along with the rest of the vehicle after rinsing, and before drying I apply dressing to the tire. This gives extra drying time, and also helps with over spray on the car. Drying removes excess. After everything else is done the last thing I do is wipe the tires with a sponge applicator. I hate dressing sling,PERIOD!

Bit of 101: 1) wash your tyres & wheels 0)wash/clay(if you have to) exterior 1)Dry exterior & dress. If you dress before washing,it will dull or completely remove the dressing. If you dress after washing but not dry yet it will look dull compared to applying to a dry/clean tyre & will have a significant wait time to dry as you have pretty much dilluted the product. APPLY TO CLEANED/DRY TYRES ps. if your doing a full detail, make it the very last thing you do! Then just sit back with a cup of coffee & appreciate the what you have accomplished while the dressing cures.

They are on cars I see frequently so they are easy to clean. If I need anything a little stronger I just mist some quick wheel detailer on it, cleans it right up.

If I'm just washing my car, I'll do it as the final step. If it's a full-blown detail, I do it after the wash but before clay, polish, LSP, etc. That way it soaks into the rubber and prevents the dreaded sling.
