Door Seals and rubber

tom p.- Glad you posted pics of those three products. Not trying to start a :argue , but I'm curious why you consider the 1Z to be superior to the Wurth. Did it perform better for you (and if so, how)?

I usually LOVE 1Z products, but I did a side-by-side on two vehicles (each vehicle got one on one side, the other product on the other, with half of each trunk seal done with each) and *I* preferred the Wurth. For *ME*, the 1Z left much more residue (that transferred to the windows/doors) than the Wurth, even though I let them both "cure" for quite a while (I also tried giving them a wipe). Other than that, I don't recall any significant differences besides smell and the listed ingredients (but this was quite a while ago..I *THINK* the Wurth left a slightly more satiny look too). We all have our preferences, and if you prefer the 1Z that's cool with me, but this was one of my more carefully controlled tests (and, if anything, I was expecting the 1Z to win), so I'd genuinely like to hear back on this.

Oh, and BTW, I think it's sorta weird that they call these products "stick" and "gel stick" even though they're liquids!

:D :D

Let's see, we knocked out cars in about 1/2 an hour. The 1Z product is new to me while the WURTH has been in my basement for several years....it may be past its prime...not certain.

I just found the 1Z product a real pleasure to work with. I thought the coverage was better and I also felt the gasket was a bit softer with the 1Z.

For sake of experimentation, I did one side of my car with the 1Z and the other side with the WURTH product. There was no question in my mind that the 1Z left a nicer appearance and it did feel softer/more pliable than the WURTH.

hth.

Tom P.- OK, fair enough! Maybe our totally opposite experiences were a matter of the particular rubber pieces involved, maybe it was just one of those imponderable things :D

Your comparo might've been a bit more "real world" for most people, I probably spent at least a half-hour doing the seals on the Jag alone! This was after I had thoroughly cleaned them with Griot's Rubber Cleaner and let them dry overnight.

Oh, and I didn't use the sponge thingie on the top of the tube, I wanted a little more control than it offered..so I didn't think about differences in the applicators.

Thanks for getting back on this..everybody better make up their OWN minds about which one is best! Heh heh, the guys who use 303 for everything vinyl and rubber probably wonder what all this "gummi stick business" fuss is about ;)
