Don't laugh. OK, go ahead and laugh...

I'm not laughing, I got a cheap one from Northern Industrial. It was about the same price. I'm only going to use it 10-12 hrs a year. I spent for Menz and good pads though. I'm very happy with mine.

The power is down a bit compared to the higher end stuff but it should be enough for lighter residential use. From a quick glance, I didn't see anything in the specs about speed control under load so it is possible that it will bog. It does allow for variable speed settings which is very important.

I won't laugh but .................I will ask you to search

it is talked about a lot

cliff notes: great price(it goes on sale for $19.99 often),

quality varys greatly, most don't keep a constant speed under load,

will not last if used a lot, chnages speed for no reason

some people have had good luck with them, but most have not

IMO save your $ for something better

At $50 you're almost halfway to the nice Makita package in the Good Deals forum. Just throwing that out there.

I have a HF drill because I needed a cheap corded drill. The thing started smoking about 5 minutes into using it. I used it again a few days later to mix paint and it go so hot I could not touch it. 30 minutes later it was still too hot to use.

I'd go with something more reliable.

I've read plenty here on HF rotaries...good and bad. While HF has some decent cheap merchandise, stand at their doorway for a few minutes and see how many electrical items come back to the store.

I have one. I use it rarely,, mainly because I have a Cyclo that handles pretty much everthing I need right now. They seem to be fine for light duty, but if you plan on using the rotary quite often I think you would be better served with a more reputible brand (makita, et al). If you want to test the waters, then the HF rotary should suffice.

Worse case scenario is you spend 40 bucks that could have gone towards a Makita or the like...save that 40 and put a little more with it to get a good machine...if i hear a lot of reviews about a tool that i have read about the HF one, i wouldnt waste my money

Got mine for 29.95 just to try out a rotary. Worked well for me with no problems, just a bit noisey. Upgraded to a Makita soon afterwards. Go for it!

I asked for one for Christmas. I dont plan on using it very often so I didnt see the need to spend $$. May use it once this year and that will be on fiber glass.
