Don't buy a car from Enterprise

When i detailed for a job in my teens, i practised on rentals, also triend new compounds on them. It helped being close relationship wise to the local AVIS people who just didnt care. They keep them for 6500K anyway and auction them off all around the same price.

Man this is a good post, it would be so simple for rental agencies to fix the problem, let's just start with some car soap, ya know. Pressure wash? I am sure some of the large rental centers have more refined methods.

I've gone autocrossing, offroading, drag racing, going and done donuts, learn e-brake manuvers, had underbody plastic rip off, reach top speed in it, and see how much dirt i can build up on it before returning it.

Usually when i return a car, the brakes are gone, tires burned to nothing, alignment is off, underbody damaged, rims have dented from driving over curbs, tranny "broken" in from gate shifted, see what happens when in R when driving.

But i always return it with a full tank of gas.

I was returning a rental and the store manager gets in a car and slams it into drive while still moving backwards, knew then that I'd never buy a former rental.

Hey, look on the bright side. If you buy a used rental, at least you know it's a reliable car. While the rental companies usually don't care about abuse caused by customers too much, I bet the last thing they want to deal with is some critical parts failing. I've always looked at the lots while driving by to see what models they rent.

I recently drove a rented Chevy Impala on a round trip from GA to VA and back and the whole time it was smooth, very solid, and stable. Not to mention pretty good gas mileage. I'd never buy a used rental, but I'd probably consider buying the same model new. Plus, Tauruses and Impalas are marked down like crazy, especially at this time of year. If you want a cheap but good car to trade in every year or so, look into the domestic full size market.

I would never buy a rental, but I would buy a car off a lease.I could just imagine what a rental car goes through, ots not the finish of the car that I care about (that could be fixed)its the inside parts that worry me.

Off-lease vehicles are a bad idea too... my truck right now was an off-lease, I've had all kinds of mechanical troubles with it.

Only used I'll even consider anymore is a company "program vehicle" or a dealer demo... you can be pretty sure those haven't been TOO ragged out, though even those get abused some.

When I was in Atlanta on bidness I had a 2004 lime green turbo Sabb 93 convertable for three weeks. It only had 560 miles on it when I got it. Needless to say I beat the snot out of it. Fun little car.
