Don't buy a car from Enterprise

Today I was up at my insurance agent getting my garage insurance policy set up. next door there is an Enterprise rental office and I saw the guy outside washing cars and decided to walk over. By the way I got coverage for my garage, trailer, equipment, car and protection for pick-up and delivery for $1400.

First thing I noticed was that there were only three spray bottles, degreaser, one that said smell good (brand name was Capri, it said deoderizer for urine, etc), and something else. I noticed the guy was using a worn out old blue brush and was cleaning the car and the tires with the same brush and the brush was beat.

I didn't see any soap so I asked the guy what he was using and he said dish soap:nono and he tells me because it is more enviormentally friendly:shocked.

At that point I decided it was time to go, I guess you can't blame them due to the speed of turnaround but they eventually sell these cars I think?

I'd never buy a former rental car. They get abused like you wouldn't believe. I know when I rent a car, I drive it hard.

you should have seen the look on the rental agents face when we did a "walk around inspection" of the rental car I had from Enterprise!! He said he never saw anybody so intensly looking for damage. I gave him my card in the event I move to Wa St.!!

The marring on a 2003 was horrendous!

another reason not to buy a car from a rental company...I beat the heck out of that little car! I know im not the only one...

I mean no pressure washer or anything and I can assure you the bucket of soap had been used on the same cars all day long.

Everyone rents cars to beat the hell out of them. Get the extended super duper insurance and they can't touch you if something happens to it. I've ALWAYS wanted to slam a car into reverse out of no where while doing high way speeds. Maye take a Dodge Neon off-roading, etc...

Rental cars are great!

i use to work at enterprise and our car preps used some type of pink car wash and one of those car wash brooms. not as bad as what AutoNova saw but still bad.

oh as for the abuse, forget about it. even the employees abuse them. its people like Scottabir who gave us grief (j/k). seriously tho, it was great to be driving a car thats not yours when a customer pisses you off. i liked the job because it was a stress reliever in itself.

Mongoose, you don't have to get the "super duper insurance" to be covered for damages. all you have to get is the Damage Waiver, which costs $8.99 a day in NYC.

hahah that is so funny...

I have a rental from enterprise right now...it hailed this morning and this after it is sunny, so I went outside to look at the paint under the sun.

It was reflecting the sun off those spider webs from every angle, it was really pretty ;)

Its a 2004 stratus...

You guys should detail your next rental car ... how funny would that be? :P THe look on the rental agent would be priceless when returning the car.

Actually would be great to test out a new compound or polish to see how aggressive it is. Also good to learn how to use a rotary on. Can buff paint to the point of damage and then see how much you can bring it back. Just go over the worked panel with a scouring pad to make it match scratches/swirls w/the others before you return the car. :o

I love rental cars, get one every time we drive to NorCal or Vegas. Don't have to care about eating in the car and if/where my family spills food or wipes their fingers after eating. :p

I did that when I had a rental car about 10 days. I just couldn't stand driving a dirty car. I just put some #26 on it, no polish.

Though I wrote this tongue-in-cheek, I should've known that someone on Autopia had already done this to a rental car. :P

I drive a car for more than a week, it won't stay dirty.

Funny thing - all the rental cars I ever get seem to have flat spots on the tires.

:D

A number of years back I had an autocross coming up and my car wasn't ready for slamming through the cones. I rented an MR2, great little car for the tight twisties.

It still had broken window glass rattling around the cockpit and pretty fresh paint on one corner from the last guy who rented it. I did use some ScratchX on the bumper where I, uh,... exited the course prematurely.

Now assume the "Lotus" position and repeat the mantra,

Screw it, it's a rental.

Screw it, it's a rental.

Screw it, it's a rental.

Ohmmm........

PC.

I have an Enterprise location at the opposite end of the strip center where my shop is located. I get about three cars per month from them. Most always an interior issue; stains or smells. The 'kids' who pose as managers just want the problem fixed. Period. I find myself slowing down my staff, using the phrase "Its just a rent."

Had one today for mildew poblems. 32,500 miles.

Anybody know how long they kep em?

Jim

A number of years ago there was a "stunt driving school" here, for people that wanted to go into the film industry. On the first day of class the students were sent off to nearby car rental lots to get cars. Eventually the rental lots figured out what was going on after so many cars came back completely thrashed.

That '03 bonneville I did that belongs to my boss was an enterprise rental car in the first part of its lifetime.... it was, and in some spots still is, a mess. Scary stuff, indeed.

Hertz farms them out at 25-30,000 miles. It used to be earlier but they now stretch it out. I bought a Malibu for my son from them and it has been trouble free so far for 3+ years. They even offered an extended warranty beyond the factory.

If you buy a used car you are always at the mercy of the previous user/s.
