Does this sound like a good price?

...Dreaming on an E92....
A friend of ours wants me to detail his truck, a 99 Ford F350 Crew Cab, 8 foot bed. It's mainly got marring and spider webbing from washing, so it's not that big of a deal. Interior is in great shape, the carpets just need to be cleaned, leather needs to be treated, and all that good stuff...

I quoted him at $125 inside/out, does this sound like enough? It's going to be my second detail with my new PC after I order it next week, so I figured I wouldn't charge too much this time...I just figured since it's such a large truck some might think I was a bit cheap about it, just wondering what you all think

Our price to detail a brand new Miata would be around $150.00, a six year old F350 Crew Cab, at least $250.00. This is a very large vehicle with ALOT of surface areas to clean, polish and protect.

I figured it was a bit cheap, but I don't mind being a bit cheap. I'm still yuong, and like I said, it will be the second etail I'll have done once I get my PC. I know it's a lot of surface to work with, but I'm used to it. We have an 00 Chevy C/K3500, same config. as the Ford. I've washed it and hand detailed it several times, so I know what I'm in for.

That reminds me, I'll have my final order list for you this week, Dwayne! :punk:

I know what you mean..I don't mind being a little cheap myself. You don't want to quote too high because then you might lose the detail all together and then you're out the $125. I usually quote low and then most of the time I get a tip that makes up for quoting low.

I'm always afraid of quoting anyone too high, because like you aid, I might lose the detail job. I really dont do that many to begin with, my main customers are neighbors, friends, and family, but it's still better than nothing. I really want to start doing more jobs after I order all my new supplies. My neighbor just bought a black 03 350Z that I'm just dying to work on :drool

to give you something to compare your price to, I did a buddys dads caddy deville the other day, no swirl removal ext. only for 70 bucks...it would have been like 90 for a normal customer...hope this helps...

Dude

We live in the same area even thought you are young and new at this....200 is still below the going rate here.....Do not be afraid to get some cash on your jobs...work slow and do the best you can....I know the pricing up here and he can't even find the hack shops for that cheap

that sound low to me . im in central ca where rates are lower than bay area . big trucks START at 150.00 , clay $25.00. engine cleaning $25.00. and thats for a newer one . id say do it and you will see why you should charge more next time . i gave some discounts to get started. its ok youre building a reputation

If your young at just starting out. Here's the best advise I can give you. Be confident in your approach with customers and your ability to do the job. When you quote a price the customer knows by your tone that your good and worth the price. They understand that the are hiring a craftsman to do the job. Trust me some you win some you lose, but that's business. The extra money you make just being in the correct market price will allow you to by better equiptment and treat youself once in a while.

You will be judged on the finished job regaurdless of the price. Be professional and at all times your message is: I have an understanding of detailing and am worth my price. Plus have your vehicle presentable, clean and organized. It shows the customers pride and that you are professional.

For what it's worth. I wouldn't do that detail for less than $350.00. I used to own a crew cab dually, there's a lot of area to detail.

Yea, I figured it was a bit cheap, but I'll get better money on the next one. And yea, places around here DO charge a lot. There's that place on the corner of SR Ave and Hearn, they charge like $400 for a mid-sized SUV :ermm:

ROCK

That's Calif Detail and they are hackers at best....I've been on there lot and had a first hand look, what I mean by that is they hire people off the street and pay them 10 bucks an hour. I've also seen there ad's in local papers .........I only caution you to not set yourself up for two low pricing once you have done this its really hard to get the price up.....I do this only as a side business and when I started my full details where $150....I've since gone up to $200 plus and on 4 x 4 trucks $250 and up depending on what you are looking at......Sounds like you have priced this one already so do your best and let the customer that this was an intro pricing and then tell him what the real cost would have been to help set the stage for the next job
