Do your moldings make your car look old?

Hey, I didn't want to believe it either. It just didn't seem right until I saw the parts explosion. I understand it though as the "frame" is the mount for the window.

I also had some trim fading issues on my 97 GSR. Good thing I don't care about the trim that much. The trim around the side and rear windows aren't that bad. I used Poorboy's Trim Restorer on them, and it cleaned them up a bit (made the color more uniform) and also a bit darker, but it became a little lighter again after a few weeks. However, for the windshield trim... forget it. I could not get it to not look a nastly spotted grey. I think I will have to resort to one of those black dyes. That is, if I care...

If you are talking about the trim at the base of the windshield and the wiper arms. Klasse AIO will clean that stuff up like new.

After reading several posts on forever black, many have complained it is not durable and only lasts a few months. Today I purchased a can of plasti-kote trim black satin finish paint.

Since the application is a spray paint, its going to take alot more prep (ie. Masking my car) work so I would like to be certain this will last.

Does anyone have any experience with this paint and what should I use to seal it?

TIA

I don't know if *only lasting a few months* would be a complaint seeing it only takes just a few minutes to reapply it. I'd be more concerned with a sprayon peeling or chipping off .. . anyway .. keep us posted on how the Plasti-Kote holds up etc .. I have had very good luck with the Plasti-Kote caliper paint and its durability.

Just don't seal it to soon there may be cure times involved.

Speaking of paint, I picked up some SEM satin black paint, recommended to me by an automotive teacher. I used it on the black area around the headlights because the paint was coming off, and it looks great. Hard to tell the difference from stock, and that was about 5 months ago, and it's still holding up great. It's mainly intended for use on interior vinyl/plastic, but my teacher told me the only difference is that it has a flex agent in it, which is why it would be good on my front bumper cover, and so far he's right.

I prepped and painted all of the moldings around the driverside and passenger side windows, and the to smaller ones in the back.

You were definitely right about one thing, took alot more prep work then black forever.

After cleaning with alcohol to remove serious oxidation, lightly sanding, taping all four windows and using pretty much my entire

Saturday Newspaper, THIS PAINT BETTER NOT PEEL OFF.

The end result I am very happy with and it looks 100% better. The only regret I might have in the future is i didnt use a semi gloss paint instead of satin finish.

What kind of dressings do you use on your window moldings?

Sorry so long
