Do your MF's ever leave crud behind in the washing machine?

I've always just put them through the wash on warm/gentle cycle but the other day my gf asked me "so will these things ever leave any junk behind in the washing machine"? Being the good deflector that I am I told her "nah, nothing to worry about" but it got me to thinking... as far as things like wax go, have you ever found traces of it on the next load of laundry you ran *after* you put your MFs through? I think my gf would absolutely flip if a load of clothes was ruined by residual junk from my MFs.

No. Never. And I've had some pretty gunked up MF's and other towels after a day or two of detailing (especially cleaning the engine bay). If you're really afraid of this happening and it would end your relationship, then run an extra load of YOUR clothes or towels right after runnign the MF load. My opinion is that this isn't necessary and that this is much ado about nothing.

I've never had an issue with it either. I'm actually washing some right now. I'll take a clean white towel, rub it around the washing machine, and get back to you.

Alright, they just came out of the washing machine.

They didn't come out completely clean this time, I had a couple pads with a decent amount of product left in them, probably from being lazy and just tossing them in to wash.

I found just a little bit of residue of something along the sides, probably wax, but again, not everything was clean either so I think that is why.

I usually make an effort to prewash by hand anything that has large amounts of residue, to preclude anything "plating out" on the inside of the washing machine/dryer. I also get a bit crazy about checking that I have enough detergent in with them...I check for sudsing to make sure I have enough to dissolve the wax, etc. I know that if you wash anything really greasy (as was mentioned with engine bay grease) it can leave a ring around the wash basin, so there could easily be some effect from the wax.

As with anything when you wash, you have to be cognizant of color bleed, etc., but just use some common sense with this, and if you are really worried, as was mentioned, wash your clothes after or just run an empty load with detergent.

In my experience *anything* will leave dirty residue in a washing machine, just the nature of the thing. I've seen washers that never had "car stuff" run through them that looked really gross. You just gotta clean the basket out from time to time and I go so far as to have it disassembled and *really* cleaned out every few years. The washer in the shop *is* a lot nastier inside than the one we only use for clothes, but the "good" one isn't spotless either, even with its stainless steel basket.

After you take out the basket and clean it, do you apply a polymer sealer followed by an LSP? Just kidding but one of my employees takes his refrigerator outside once a month and and powerwashes the backside of it. I thought I was anal about my cars but after that I think I'm pretty normal.

If you live in Guelph you may find that that you need to add more detergent to remove the residue from both the towels and the machine then put it through another cycle without detergent to give them a really good rinse - if you do not have a water softener. Guelph water is the hardest water I have encountered, it leaves a lot of residue in the machine and on the towels. If there is residue in the machine chances are it's on the towels. You may not see it at first but in time you will.

i use liquid tide with some a scoop of oxyclean, and haven't had any problems/traces of any residue left behind. :nixweiss
