Since I swap my wheels so often, I just clean the insides whenever I have them off.

Also, my friend bought that Craftsman jack you're talking about, and it broke after I think one or two uses (the front wheel fell off).

I have heard nothing but horror stories regarding aluminum jacks. I am sure there are lots of people that have had great luck with them but, I will never get one. The only reason I could see for having one is for something that is light and easy to move around for taking to the track. For home use I would get something as sturdy as possible. I have two floor jacks, a Craftsman 3 1/2 ton and an AC Hydraulics 4,400 lb jack. For Jack Stands I have a set of 3 ton and a set of 6 ton Craftsman jack stands. I am looking at getting some Griot's jack stands that have a more flat saddle that won't mar my subframes like the Craftsman ones do.

My "lightweight" jackstands were from Griot's. They have plastic pads to protect the spots where they contact the car. For my heavy-duty stands, I've put thin sponges between them and the car and it seemed to work fine. Gotta take sensible precautions, of course.

Here are my Jacks and Jack stands. I do have the plastic pads for the jack and jack stands and they do work pretty well but, the shape of the jack stand saddle just isn't ideal for preventing subframe damage.

I am looking at these from Griot's

I've read a good review on the AC Hydraulic jack. Too bad it's so darn expensive :( Did you get yours at Automotive Service Equipment? Ac Hydraulic also makes jack stands, but like the jack, they're pricey too.

That's nice to know. What jack do you use?

My father has had the same jack for years....it's so old that I don't even know who makes it. Never failed though....weighs a ton, that's for sure.

I got mine from a guy on eBay for ~$130. He bought two of them, one for himself and one for a budy. The budy backed out so he sold it on eBay and I picked it up.

If I were to buy another one, I would probably get it from Ultgar. While he has not been around in a long time he is a fellow Autopian. Here is a link to his website.

[quote name='Accumulator']Heh heh, well, *I* sure look that close ;) but then I guess I'm, uhm, "unusual" :o

Actualy, I think of it as being AUTOPIAN. On this forum that is not unusual. Rather the standard. A standard that i am still trying to obtain.

until i got too old to get down on my knees easily i removed my wheels twice a year or so to rotate. this was a good time to clean up the back side and the wheel wells. now i just use my pressure washer.

I wish I had the time and resources to do so.... I can still see a bit of brake dust no matter how hard I try to remove it, but then ,it is diminishing returns. Only I seem to notice, so I am satisfied in that fact anyway.
