Do you like Zaino ????

My Zaino package just arrived today. I have put two coats of z5pro/zfx on so far and will top with z2 tomorrow. I couldn't hold back from all of the hype anymore. But in all honesty, I think the prep products on the one to keep up on. ie 105, uf. These are the products that really improve the looks of the car. I think this order of Zaino will be my last (freakout and buy) LSP. After about ten of them, I have learned that the difference is minimal. I have been really impressed with DWG.

OH ya!! Can I top DWG with Z2 or z5

Yes, you can. :) And I bet it would look fabulous. Wait, did I just say "fabulous"? I've been watching too many home decorating shows with the wife, I guess.

Durability *may* be compromised.

I've tried Zaino...and it's good. However, I now use Optimum OS and OCW and like the Optimum products much better for looks and ease of use! I apply an LSP every 2-months so durability is a non-issue.

I definitely prefer Opti-Seal over Z2 in terms of appearance and application. Durability is similar IME.

Interesting view Rob. I have OS & UPGP and like the look they give.

Not seen Zaino yet - nearly been swept along with recent hype about this stuff but so far resisted. Would really like to see them side by side and try and understand whether the hype is justified

"Recent hype"?

Hype has surrounded Zaino for more than a decade! I believe that the hype was somewhat justified many years ago, but personally feel that the competition has more than caught up.

Zaino is still an excellent product though.

BTW, which do you prefer between OS and UPGP?

I'll throw my $0.02 in for this.

I dont like Zaino. It looks killer, beads great and is super easy to apply, but IME, the durability is on par with NXT. I cant get it to bead on a ISO 50/50 wiped surface over well prepped paint for longer than say a month, GARAGED.

I much prefer #21.

Z-8 on the other hand, is worth every friggin penny, but IMO, I wont buy Z2 or Z5 again.

The hype is really hitting Detailing World and the UK right now. Been a very niche product due to crazy pricing in the UK ($45 for Z2/5, $50+ for Z-AIO etc) but a recent slight price reduction and the appointment of a popular figure on DW as a development manager, has suddenly lead to it becoming the next great thing ;)

I have used OS & UPGP in different circumstances, so a direct comparison is tough... I noticed more of an improvement in looks when I used OS over some other waxes on my dark red pearl Audi, than when I did the same with UPGP, but UPGP seems to have a VERY nice look after a few layers on my darker silver Saab. I prefer the beading and sheeting of OS over UPGP for sure. So far though, no definitive answer on it ;)

Thanks. As you know I have been very happy and impressed with OS, but there are several people here who have used both and prefer UPGP. I will probably order some UPGP before the end of the summer.

Rob, you might want to check and see if DavidB has anymore of the Ultima Sample Kits left. It was a great deal. I think it was forty bucks, and had samples of the main Ultima stuff, including a 4 oz bottle of UPGP. I got about 20 applications out of that bottle. It's great stuff. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Supe - I have 2 of the kits - you're right ;)

IIRC you were a Zaino user in the past werent you? How does the UPGP look compared to the big Z....

Yeah, I used Zaino for a long time. Side by side, I think you'd have a really hard time telling UPGP from Zaino. They are both very good looking sealants.

Yeah, I doubt that I would be disappointed too. The real question is whether there would be any noticeable improvement over OS.

This is one reason I don't feel the immediate need to try it. If I already have a preference for OS over Z2 (I think OS gives a deeper look and isn't as "plastic" looking), and there isn't much of a difference between Z2 and UPGP.......

Then again, everyone has different experiences with various products. That's why I am on a mission to try them all! :chuckle:

Ewww.... I'm really risking getting flamed, but here goes... Yeah, Z and UPGP are both very similar in their looks, but *IMHO* UPGP provides better environmental protection. I can just sense the bile rising in the throats of the Zainoites as they read this, and I'm sure we'll get a hail storm of posts about how well Zaino protects, but again, this is *Just my opinion* having used both products quite extensively.

Zaino is easier to apply, easier to layer, looks phenomenal, and lasts forever. UPGP is a pain in the butt to apply, you have to wait forever to layer it, and doesn't look it's best til you've waited 12 hours after the final coat and gone over it with a QD. So they both have their pluses/minuses. Yet I'd still vote for UPGP because of the great environmental protection it provides. The cost per application is reasonable, too.

All products have their ups and downs. If Zaino would update their products to provide the environmental protection (and ease of washing) of a carnauba, I'd switch to it and never look back.

SuperBee, I wonder if your enviroment has much to do with your factors.

We must remember that besides the fancy names, clever marketing, etc.... carnuaba wax is in fact a wax.

My experiences have been the direct opposite of yours, but I don't believe it is because either of us is wrong. In Florida, it is hot for so long of the year and the sun is so direct (as well as the humidity) that it greatly effects the performance of most products.

Since carnauba wax becomes unstable at 170 degrees and melts at 181 degrees, we must remember that it softens at tempatures far less then this. In Florida, this means that anytime the car is outside (9 months of the year) the tempature is such that the actual wax is soft. This means contaminents can "stick" into the paint easier and IMO, are more likely to become embedded.

Again, this is me using a little fact to support a theory and I haven't researched it enough to back it up at his point.

But... I maintain a daily driven 550i, which recieved Zaino for the last year. 4 months ago the owner wanted to dry something different so we switched to Meguiars #16. I detailed the car yesterday, and had to clay because it had so much contamination (more then it recieved in the entire year with Zaino).

IMO, Zaino is the best sealant I have used and among the best LSP there is, in terms of looks, protection, and durability.

How so SB? It doesn't get any easier than WOWA.

Yeah, you'd think so, but I have the hardest time getting it on right. I usually end up over applying it so bad that it doesn't level out like it should. Or I go so thin that it's not really enough. Some people get the hang of it right away, but I've been using it since last October and still have a hard time with it. Applying it under Halogens really helps, though. Makes me feel pretty stupid, really.

Todd, you are one of the guys on this board whose opinion I *highly* regard. So much so that I think I'm going to revisit Zaino again. I have an almost untouched bottle of their WOWA product, too. Maybe a couple coats of Z2 followed by one of the WOWA would be a good test...

I don't understand how so many people think Zaino is so easy to apply. I mean, it isn't difficult, but there are many other products that apply much easier than Zaino.

Opti-Seal is MUCH easier to apply than Zaino. I guess I am one of those people that just caught on easily. I do rarely get a few "high spots", but they are so easy to remove with a quick wipe of the MF, I don't even consider it a big deal at all when it happens.

Carnauba wax is blended with other products which raises the melting point (when applied to the car) sort of like how coolant raises the boiling point of water.

We regularly top 100 here in the Dallas area in the summer and even using carnaubas exclusively on the black 626 (that sits outside 24/7) I used to have, I never had any problems even when going 3+ months between wax jobs.

I regularly use both sealants and carnaubas on customer's vehicles and haven't noticed a difference between with two with respects to bonded contaminents. Granted, we don't have any heavy industry here so that may play a role. :nixweiss

I use Carnauba Moose (which is a liquid) more than paste carnaubas, CMW being a liquid carnauba may have something to do with it as well.

With respects to Zaino, I've always had good results using it, but IMO, Werkstatt is a better looking sealant (although I'd give Z5 a slight edge on solid black) and easier to use. Lasts every bit as long as Zaino does too, and that is based on using both on the same van that only sees tunnel washes. No QDs, no ONR, nothing. Both held on for a good 8 months.
