So after I washed the silverado yesterday I noticed some little chips in the paint under my door handle on the driver's side. I'm thinking what is this? How did this happen? Sure enough, I have about 4 tiny rock size chips which go right down to the metal. They're small, but noticable. I'm assuming they are from rocks flying from the road or something like that, unless someone or something etched the paint. No matter how far away I park, how much I pamper my vehicles, something always seems to happen like this. It just gets me frustrated.
 
hey brother! i sure do feel the pain. have a black silverado that i take great pains to keep in top notch condition. since i drive back and forth from texas to alaska each year i realy get a lot of road chips. some of which are small others are large but no matter what the size i notice eah one daily as i either wash, polish, wax or quick detail my car eveyday. i got some touch up paint to hide the white thatis under the black but i am no painter and the results are less than outstanding. i just have to happy that i am trying to do the right thing.
 
I hear ya. Every time I mess with my car I find another scratch. Frustrating.
 
Add me to this list, every time I wash or QD I find another chip or scratch and it really does bring tears to my eyes. (not to mention steam out of my ears) :mad:
 
chips right under the door handle could be cause by a key if you're locking/unlocking manually in the dark (where is that key hole?), or if someone has a lot of danglely things on a key ring.

My ex had at least 4 key rings daisy chained together. One had our house/car keys, keys for her parents house, keys for work, and I don't remember what was on the other ring(s). Our cars always had scratched/chips under the door handles & she refused to listen.
 
All you have to do is wrap them in bubble wrap and leave them in the garage.
No problem. No dings or nicks.

Keyless entry is a must have feature for any car that I own for this very reason. Combine that with clear bra protection under the door handles and you should be all set.


I certainly feel your pain, I guess it's part of loving a car/truck that is a daily driver. :ticked

I don't think this is what caused it. I'm the only one that drives my truck. I have the keyless entry so I never put my key in the lock. The only other option I can come up with is that I might have rubbed or nicked it somehow with my jacket or clothing.
