Do you apply your wax/sealant to the plastic trim?

Claude's recent thread on wax and trim staining has raised this question: Which waxes and sealants are safe to apply to plastic trim and cladding?

My wife's CR-V has LOTS of cladding. I seal it with the same product I use to seal the paint--Ultima Paint Guard Plus. But I confess that I probably would not apply many other waxes or sealants to the trim, maybe Optimum Opti-Seal or Klasse Sealant. But with just about any other wax or sealant, I would play it safe and avoid the trim. I know that some use Collinite 845 on their plastic trim, but I probably would not risk it.

What do you all do? What products do you use to seal and protect the exterior trim and cladding? Do you apply your wax/sealant to the trim, or do you use a designated product?

Well, on my truck I usually dress the trim every couple washes, for this I use Meguiars All Season Dressing or Gold Class Trim Detailer. If its after a wash then I usually just wipe it down with Ultimate Quik Wax ,after I wiped down the painted surfaces of the truck of course.

On customer cars, I mainly use ASD or M40 since the trim needs to be reconditoned anyway.:)

I like Back to Black, Chemical Guys VRP and Zaino ClearSeal for black plastic trim. (ZCS would be too pricey for large amounts of plastic trim, like cladding.)

Hi Al,

From my experience, after what happened with Blackfire midnight paste I would have to say it all depends on the trim's texture. So what I'm saying test a small area first. I found out by accident about Midnight sun staining of my jeep's trim staining. Before then I have used only 303 products to clean and maintain all trims. If the texture is smooth I usually use Zaino Z5,Z2,ZCS or ZAIO because I mostly use these products on my vehicles. On the paint,Windows, headlights,Chrome, etc... As long as it's NOT textured it works great. FYI blackfire midnight sun paste worked great on my jeeps mirror non textured housing.

I hope this helps you out and anyone else that's reading this post.

Have a great day
Claude

Flitz Speed wax won't stain,or hasn't stained any trim yet.And if I'm remember right Redcap seal and shine won't stain.(Not for sure)

But I have a few products that I use just for the trim
Einszett vinyl and rubber care,CG clear seal detailer.

I more with Nick, I use dressings, Meguiars Hyper Dressing or M40. Unless I am right after a wash and I am going over the car with Ultimate Quick Wax. Then everything gets waxed except tires.
