Do sealants last as long as they say they do?

I have a whole gallon of One Grand Hand Glaze. Better question than last time...Can I apply this by PC, and how exactly should I do this? I mean, speed, pad, etc. I also use Souveran, so I will applying the glaze and souveran every few weeks or so. Does this sound like a good plan? Hope this is a better series of questions.

Well I have not exp with that "specific" glaze but I do know if you use the Porter Cable machine you should use the blackish grey pad, the softest. This will allow coat after coat to layer instead of removing some due to the white and yellow pad's "cutting" action.

You are not trying to fix anything on the car but rather apply it so I would use the Porter Cable at a low speed. Try "2" and see if that speed will spread the product enough while at the same time not makings swirls.

Interesting, on onegrand.com it says the Glaze can "remove" swirls. I would think their Special Touch product was more geared toward removing swirls. But if the Glaze can do light duty swirl remover then using it with a PC would only add to it.

It's probably been asked before but can a sealant really last 6 months?

I'm talking about bi-weekly hand car washes, 100 degree heat(probably 200+ surface temp.), bird droppings, etc.?

Mother's California Gold is my wax of choice but it will melt during this heat wave in New Jersey. I have no problem switching over to a sealant but for me to do that, It really would need to last for an extended period of time.

What is your experience with sealants?

If I choose a sealant, I will use the Griot's product.

Zaino and Duragloss last the longest of anything I know. Collinite also, but most people group that in with "waxes". Yes, 6 months is very possible.

a sealant will without question last longer than any wax.... blackfire wet diamond is sealant of choice. 4-6 months easy with proper soaps and technique

In my experience Collinite super double coat has lasted a very long time- at least 6mo, it is very tough stuff.

I put it over my BFWD for extra protection.

Collinite products are heavy with solvents. I would be willing to bet you are removing the BFWD with the application of Collinite.

To the OP question:

So many variables...I have obtained great longevity with a sealant. Klasse AIO being my fave for longevity. BFWD is another good one. How you prep and apply, and then take care of it after application has more to do with the longevity than the product (I believe). A crappy wax applied well will last longer than a great sealant applied by a person who doesn't take care of their car.

since i live in a island , one coat of Z2 ( no layering or ZFX )
on 3M imp glaze or ironX'ed surface last 4 months for me .

Biolink, how long do you usually get out of Klasse AIO? Ive heard people complain it doesnt last long and I dont get it because I think its pretty durable.

OP.........havent tried the griots .Sealants are def the way to go though!

By itself 4-6 months. With a coat or two of the sealant glaze up to a year (with good care). I applied it to my mom's car and she won't stop talking about it. She said the water was beading and cleaning was much easier up to a year later. I think it is durable. I have had good luck with acrylic. BFWD as I understand has an acrylic polymer as well. I get good durability from that too.

Thanks ! I was going to say KlasseAIO averages about 5 months for me
Ive got the KSG on my van roof and not going to put anything else on it because Im testing its durability . So far been 6 months and still beading well.

I agree with your MOm , my van has stayed much cleaner with the KSG and llots less bugs and debries stick to it . Its awesome stuff! But I do reapply it every month to the rest of my van just because it gives me pleasure to and I love the slick look and feel to it!

I also havent had to clay it for months now where as before I was claying every 2 months or so.
