Do mechanics really care or treat a car different when it looks good?

I remember when I had a VW Golf with tasteful modifications, the techs and detailers loved the way it looked and it was always freshly detailed for free after an oil change or service.

My MB goes to a private mechanic who always comments on my clean engine. He has even gone so far as to help me further clean my engine when on a lift as well as suggesting a steam cleaning shop to have the underbody cleaned.:D ;) He also lets me hang around the car and talk and ask questions, I'm sure I pay a bit more for this but still significantly less than any dealer and my car gets the full treatment. :o He does occassionally get fingerprints on the hood or door but honestly does it really matter? The car needs to be QD'ed after a drive anyways so I never stress about it.

I change the oil on the car and I also manage to get a few fingerprints on the hood, a quick QD takes care of it.:xyxthumbs:

I guess my point is you don't want the mechanic to be stressed when working on your car and a little extra cleaning is no big deal to get the job done right. Now what happened to Russ968 is a different story: :scared :argue :angry

The Last Dealer I Used Before Changing Dealers...Was a BIG MB Dealer In Newport Beach ca..It Starts With the Service advisor..

When You tell them to PLEASE take care of the car..they TOSS the Magnet Number hat on the Roof..then drag it into place on a BLACK car!:shocked ...Then I Made a Card that goes into place on the Instrument cluster PLEASE do NOT wash this car...I Forgot to do it in Spanish...Then You get the car back with SEVERAL door Dings and The Front Bumper Hit!...Must have had the Weekly Bumper car Match in the parking lot...Then Fight with them..as the Car Didnt Look Like This when I Came in!...Then The Wash..yes the Dreaded FREE car wash..It looked like they used a Mitt from the Wheels to to soap up my Black car...Im Still Buffing out the marks from the FREE wash...

And PRAY That You Dont have To bring it back.........

I Now use Another dealer that Puts my car inside if it has to stay overnight..and they Dont wash my cars!.They can read!.. So far So Good

What a difference !!!:xyxthumbs

mark cummins- Experiences like yours are a VERY BIG part of why I switched to Audis (and won't go back). Our local Benz dealers are just impossible to deal with. Lucky you to have found a good one :xyxthumbs

BTW, just got Accumulatorette's A8 back from Stoddard Imported Cars. NO PROBLEMS, per usual. They always do (and/or DON'T do) what I tell 'em. And they travel a LONG way to pick them up at our home and leave a loaner. Just INCREDIBLE people to do business with, from the owner on down to the "lot boys".

Just to be safe, I'm thinking of getting some seat covers to protect against the potentially dirty mechanic. Hope this isn't the case with Audi dealers but I never had one before so I'll be safe than sorry.

covers are availible at Griots garage item 77647 or 77643

I'll probably get them next year when car needs first service
