Do I need AIO?

I ordered some KAIO that will be here for my detail next weekend. I have a black 2009 Tacoma with very minor swirls (mostly dealer caused I'm pretty sure).

My plan is to wash, use KAIO, then follow up with a coat of Collinite 845 with another followup coat of the Collinite next weekend.

I am very much a noob at this, so I'm looking for feedback. The main reason I ordered the KAIO was to take off the old TW Ice liquid polish I put on about 3 weeks ago (yeah, I know, not good wax by any means but better than nothing I hope?).

The swirls are very minor I would say, only noticeable if you're in direct sunlight and an inch away from the paint. Will the KAIO make these swirls pop more? I don't think the TW Ice has any filler, so I think what I can see is what's there. What I don't want is to make the swirls pop more before the Collinite because I can't afford a PC right now and have no polishing experience. If the KAIO is going to bring out the swirls I'll just skip it and go straight to Collinite after washing until I can afford a buffer.

(I forgot to mention that I clayed it about 3 weeks ago too using mother's claybar. It shouldn't be necessary to clay again should it?)

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, the TW was better than nothing and the KAIO will clean it off just fine. The AIO/845 combo should work out well.

Unfortunately I *would* expect the AIO to make them more obvious. I would have chosen a different all-in-one type product, not that *that* advice is of much help to you now I suppose...

I dunno if the TW is filling or not, never tried it. I don't think that skipping the AIO would be a good idea though, because it will clean the paint and provide some prep for the 845.

Unless you want to try a different AIO-type product, or do some hand polishing, I think I'd go ahead with the KAIO/845 plan and see how you like the results. If the marring is just *too* obvious you could get some Meguiar's NXT v2.0 at the local autoparts store and top the 845 with that (no, the NXT won't clean off the 845). That will probably provide a bit of concealing. Meguiar's #26 might be another option and that would probably make the paint look deeper/richer too.

I doubt it needs claying again so soon. Unless it feels rough (do the baggie test) I'd just let the KAIO do the cleaning.

Oh, and Welcome to Autopia!

Thanks Accumulator,

For future reference, what AIO product would have been better? ZAIO? I almost went with a ZAIO/ZCS/Z5/Z2 but I found the Collinite locally so went this way.

Again, thanks!

You could go the with the Zaino treatment, but that will intensify imperfections as well. I believe ZAIO has a small amount of abrasives in it.

Check out Werkstat Prime next time...

WERKSTAT Detailing: Prime

FWIW, I personally would go with another claying. Only if it's a gentle clay like

Sonus SFX Ultra Detailing Clay or Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay. It's super gentle, should only add another 30-45 mins, and you'd be that much more confident in your prep work.

Good luck and have fun.:buffing:

I love KAIO for glass, applied with a white pad by hand or machine.

Good idea, my windshield is pretty gnarly already from bugs and stuff.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely get that clay so I have some gentler stuff if I need it.

I like the Zaino AIO...not so much as a replacement for Klasse AIO but different enough that I like having them both.

BUT...in these situations I try to read between the lines and pick the best choice for the given situation. In your case, I think that you'd be OK with hiding/filling some of the light marring so it's not so obvious.

Products like KAIO work best after a thorough polishing, and without that polishing any flaws are usually quite obvious. Zaino AIO has some mild abrasives that *might* remove it, but I kinda doubt that it'd work out that way unless your paint is very soft so I'd put it in the same category as the KAIO (ditto for the Werkstat...good stuff but you oughta polish first). Since you're not planning to polish out the marring, I'd want to conceal it instead. So...

IME the best AIO with concealing ability is probably AutoGlym Super Resin Polish, a product that doesn't get much attention here. It's *VERY* user-friendly and works great under Collinite. That combo looks good in all respects and lasts a long time. The marring will "come back" in time, but it'll take quite a while (not just a few weeks). That approach would tide you over until you get into machine polishing.

I found the autoglym polish on Amazon, so if the Klasse ends up too revealing, I'll get this stuff. The reviews do look good for concealing swirls a bit.
