Do I have issues? A Christmas story..

If I am not mistaken someone asked the same question before and was told that they are made by two different companies.
 
So I get a call from my neighbor across the street on Christmas Eve afternoon. He bought a car for his wife for Christmas and wanted to keep it in my garage until Christmas morning. He arrives about 10 minutes before we are leaving for church with a 2006 Mercedes C230 wearing black. The car looked pretty clean at first glance. He starts telling about the great deal they gave him. Then it happens he tells they buffed out all the scratches and sealed the car with a special sealant that will last 2 years as part of the deal. Now I am laughing on the inside. Dealership detail and 2 year sealant.
We then leave for church and the whole way back home I am looking forward to taking a closer look at this car.

Yeah you guessed it.

Plus there was so much crap in the paint it was like sand paper. Looks like I am going to have to show him what removing swirls looks like verse just filling them. My bet is that it will be back over at my place in a few weeks.

Sorry, I just could not help myself. Would anyone else have done this??
 
He must got it from the one the dealers that they think they know everything about detailing in the bay area.

So, how well do you know these people? Are they good neighbors?

This situation is a bit delicate. On the one hand he is pleased with his purchasing prowess and she will be pleased with such a nice gift - don't want to rain on the parade!

The car does need correction but how to approach the subject? You can't do a demo spot somewhere obvious 'cause then the whole thing needs to be done right away. Perhaps the lower rear bumper area but then comes the money shot - are you going to finish the job? Free or what cost? Or will you volunteer your time to tutor him if he purchases his own equipment/supplies?

Touchy one you got there...

Excellent points! You might want to show him the paint under your Brinkmann, then show him a before/after shot from your gallery.

I'd approach him like this:

"Your car is gorgeous! Would you like for me to make it look even better?"
 
I told him to drive the car around for a couple weeks and let me have it. Take a look at the "Looking back on 2009" thread, the Hummer, the Camaro, and the Porsche belong to him. So he knows what I can do.
Plus I want to see it in the direct sunlight to check for holograms.
