Do dealers always wash their cars that come in for service?

I just had warranty service and I told them not to wash the car and the service manager told me that they never do! He said that they don't even have provisions to wash the car there. (How the heck do they prep their other cars then???) This dealership also "went the extra mile" for me on delivery; they didn't wash the car at my request and even left all the plastic on the interior. How often does this happen? Needless to say, I will return to them for service.

"I keep a big sign in the glove box that says "Do Not Wash Me!!!!!" I put it on the instrument cluster of my BMW. I have sat by the service bay and watched them wash every car that came out. Same bucket and same dirty rag in the middle of the winter."

Well, here's the problem. They guy washing the car did not get inside it to see the sign. (Since my dealer has a "drive through" wash, a sign on the dash does the trick.) Maybe you need to affix it to the inside of the windshield facing out. If the kid actually doing the damage can't see the sign (and he's probably not authorized to drive the cars around), then you might as well leave it in the trunk.

Just wanted to add that you may also want to remind them not to even clean the windows.

:LOLOL Not just at the dealership though, same deal with the Lube Goons. The place that changes my oil has it in their computer to not perform the courtesy service (glass and vacuuming) on my car. All it took was one time for the guy doing the courtesy service to set the bottle of glass cleaner on my trunk lid while he was cleaning my glass for me to tell them never to clean my glass again...not that they even clean it all that well.

I have been working for dealers for over 4 years now,

most of the time, the cars get washed.

when i take my moms toyota to the dealer, they always ask, " is it ok for us to wash the car, no cost to you?"

and i always so NO !!!

i tell them it doe not need to be washed.

even if you take the car in there clean, i have known porters to wash them anyways, why because if they have an A-hole svc manager like i had, that was their job and they did what they were told, " every car that comes in gets washed"

:o

Any Dealership that is Certified HAS to wash it's customers cars if they want to retain its Certified (5 star) ranking. They have no choice because the parent compainies mandate it. We also own a Ford, Chevy, and Kia and they all mandate this. We have no choice.

Might be what they are supposed to do but I take my Jeep to a 5 star Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge dealership and they have never washed it. I have never told them not to either. I do however make sure I wash it the day before I am taking it in. If you want to make sure it doesn't get washed the sign is good, telling you advisor is good, and bringing it in clean doesn't hurt either.

My friend owns a Nissan Sentra Spec V SER, and he took it in for service. turns out the motor was bad and they had to replace it (long story). While they were waiting for the new motor to come in the placed the key in the drivers door lock and let it hang.... for 3 days (no motor in the car, cant steal the car but everything inside was at risk). Not only that but since the key was hanging in the open wind the key foble swung around and scratch the door up around the lock. and they refused to repair it since "that was stadard operating procedure, and no specific person caused the damage." We kicked and screamed and fought and lost, so noe he has no pint around his drivers door handle cause of "standard procedure"

I will NEVER buy a nissan for this exact reason. Not only that but while he was with out a car for 2 weeks, they did not even give him a rental car!!

All it will take is one Survey sent to Corp that says "No washing of vehicle" and BAM! LOL!

i worked at a 5 star dealer for 3 years, and am starting a new one tomorrow,

the porters washed the cars no matter what, we had to tell them not to wash the cars.

but at the same time, we did not ask the customers. Alot of cars came in dirty and we as writers did not even ask.

If i noticed a car was clean, or brand new, i would tellthem not to wash it. :nixweiss

My dealer usually washes every car that comes in except when it's raining.

I specifically tell them everytime I go in not to wash my car. The have magnetic "hats" that say "DO NOT WASH" on them that they'll stick on the car and they'll write it in big print on the invoice not to wash my car. My service writer also tells me that they will not wash trucks that have a bug deflector on them because the touch-and-swirl machine will rip it off.

antennas were the most "broken" items when using the auto wash machine,

other than the swirls that are beaten into the paint

I have a "Thanks for the kind offer but Please Do Not Wash This Car" sign for my vehicles as well. The different part is that my sign has the same request also printed in Spanish and German.

It gets taped to the hard plastic of the dashboard whenever a car goes in for service.
