Do coating users still like their coatins???

I agree with some of the others above, just do a decon with IronX and tar remover (Tarminator) and a final wash with CarPro Reset. If you want the added slickness while maintaining similar properties to the coating you can use Relaod or Hydr02, but I also like using 22ple VS1 as it also works very well but doesn't have the fussiness that Reload can have.

So if I were to use CarPro products...since I have CQUK as my coating...would I:
Simply wash with Reset, rinse,
then use Tar-X, rinse,
then Iron-X, rinse,
then re-wash with Reset,
rinse and dry.

If there's any water spots, use Spotless to take care of those.
Then Reload.
Would that get me back to pre-winter coating conditions?

That is probably a bit more complicated than I would do.

My thoughts Iron-X snow soap is to help remove contaminants
Reset Shampoo is for your weekly wash maintenance routine.
Check for contaminants (Baggie test) before doing Decon maint.

Decon would be:
Wash with Iron-X snow soap, rinse (not a weekly wash)
Tar-X (only on problem areas if needed)
Spray and lightly rub Iron-X, rinse
Nanoskin Autoscrub (FINE GRADE) w/clay lube, rinse
Dry with - Dry me Crazy

Weekly would be:
Wash with Reset
Dry with - Dry me Crazy

Every month or so apply Reload.

I was told that if I used Nanoskin fine on the coating it would mar it and I would need to possibly buff and re-apply CQUK. Since that defeats the purpose of the coating, I was trying to stay away from the "clay" step.

Yup, still love coating. I changed cars right before last winter and haven't had a chance to put coating on it. I can't wait for Spring to come along for a nice polish then try out opti gloss coat

Another vote for Coatings - in my case, Optimum Opti-Guard, which later evolved into Opti Coat Pro, etc...

Applied it to my Black '09 Grand Cherokee 4 years ago and it is still there, looking great..
The first couple of years, the dirt shedding characteristic of it was amazing - nothing stuck to the paint..

Over the next year + and a total of 16 thousand miles of highway driving, it has gotten embedded stuff in it that feels a little bit rough.
I have had great success using Car Pro Reset Shampoo on the paint and really scrubbing the paint (which has not ever scratched it), and the paint is smoother and shedding dirt much better..

Even now 4 years later, the gloss and clarity has not diminished, and the coating is still doing its job - protect my paint, make it less susceptible to scratches, and shine with incredible clarity..

I love the fact that underneath this Coating my paint has been protected and its beautiful..

I have from time to time thought about going over it with something really fine like Optimum Finish Compound, but after washing it and looking at how blinding it is in the sun, I just forget that idea and use the time to do something else..

If the coating ever starts to fail, then I will see about working on it then..

Good luck with your research !

is it true coatings cannot be topped with a wax or sealant?
Btw, whose coating is easy to apply and"looks" the best among the competition?

It isn't true. You can top any coating with a sealant or wax. But the issue with doing so is that you "cover up" the properties of the coating you are using and your sealant/wax might not last as long as you are expecting due tot he coatings properties of shedding dirt and "contamination". I have used many spray waxes on top of my coatings with no issue.

But I have mostly given up on topping any coating with a sealant/wax because of they tend to attracted more dust/dirt than the coating. I now use a few more coating specific (enhances the coatings) products.

  • ReLoad (The
  • Hydro2
  • Sonax BSD (QD that acts like a coating)
  • Kamikazi Over Coat (Playing with it now and very cool)
  • Gyeon Q2M WetCoat (Same as Hydro2 only easier to use)
  • Gyeon Q2 Bathe+ (Car wash with Reload in it. Wash and gloss/slick in one step.)

I love my coatings and I am never going back. it has given me better protection for my cars, and more free time for me.

I would not top my coating unless I needed a extension to get through the winter or to pout off a full tear down and re application when I had time. For those times I use Permanon Platinum. 3-6 weeks of protection for 5 minutes or less of effort.

You need to be able to polish properly and finish dowm extremely well before you think about jumping into coatings. I cannot tell you the frustration I had as I was learning correction and I would be happy with the results, only to become unhappy as I realized I could amp up the shine more. Lucky for me, it was when I was using BFWD and that was easily removed and re applied.

TroyScherer...Can you tell me more about the Gyeon products? I've never heard of them, and at least their website is pretty nice. Where do they fall in relation to quality of coating products? Are they interchangeable with CarPro?

At this point my knowledge of Gyeon actual coatings is only from research as I have not had a chance to try them yet. But I do know that Mike lambert (member here) has recently switch from CarPro to Gyeon and has said it is in his opion better and easier to use. They seem to be very similar to Carpro and other "glass coatings" on the market. (TAC Systems, Choose Nanotech) IMO most of these coatings are all coming from the same source with only slight differences in formulation if any. If you look at TAC Systems you will find product that line up with both Gyeon and CarPro. But each have their own unique name and such.

I have had a chance to use Gyeon WetCoat & Bathe+.

WetCoat: IMO is the same as Hydro2 only it is RTU. Some have said that there is less stracking issue with it as well.
Bathe+: A nice car-soap with basicly Reload sealant in it. A maintenece wash that adds slickness and gloss without needing to apply a QD.

Gyeon does also have somthing called "CanCoat" which from my understanding is basicly a slightly revised version of Gtechniq Exo v1 that was a aerosol spray application.

Thank you Sir

Coating forever... just to many benefits NOT to use it over conventional system on a daily driver.

We are a certified Gyeon installer, after proving we had knowledge of both product and polishing. I have used all the Gyeon coatings that are available. I find they give a look similar to carnuba, but with the benefits of coatings. Durability is very good after 7 month's on the wife's car,out 24/7, still sheds dirt, still beads, and only maintained with bathe. Wiped down once with cure( similar but way easier than reload) my mom in law has cancoat and after 4 months holding up very well. Mine has Mohs plus and I have people ask me how I made a black car look so different. A slight learning curve as there is with any new product but very easy to use.
You can top it,I have clients who like waxing but wanted the protection of a coating.
I hope that helps,if you have any questions please feel free to call,or contact Esoteric car care.

If your car gets contaminated, instead of claying, use use any of the iron x product on the paint - let it sit a few minutes and pressure wash it = no marring.
