I do it at home even though everyone thinks that I am crazy :scared Do you guys whip out the leaf blower on the job ever?

Leaf blower? If I hired a pro detailer and he pulled out his leaf blower to dry my car, I would politely ask him to leave. I really do not mean this as an insult, but for the sake of all detailers - PLEASE DO NOT USE LEAF BLOWERS.

theveed is right. compressed air will really help you get the water out of the cracks and avoid drips down the paint.

There is nothing wrong with using a leaf blower. Wopuld you rather have air remove the water or a towel that has the potential to scratch. I know that there are many here who use them I was just curious if any pros used them mobile.

Or would you rather propel unfiltered air with plenty of harsh stuff in it at your car at 220+mph?

Your choice.:nixweiss

220+ MPH plus huh? Doubt my leaf blower is that powerful. Either way thanks for contributing to the conversation lol.

hmm...I've got nothin. A leaf blower does sound a bit odd to use on a clients car. I'd say stick to the microfiber towels. I'm your little drier, I don't have a problem helping out! But one more question...would you really have the room to add a leaf blower with all of your other stuff packed in your car? But on the other hand...if it's a new blower you just bought, used only for detailing, I don't think it would be bad...I've never seen anything come flying out of ours that we use for yardwork, there aren't rocks flying around in the air, it's no different than if you blew compressed air on a surface and some kind of particles got in that path between your car and your hose or whatever and hit your car....ya know? So both are subject to that aspect if you go down that route.

Lol, I don't think a regular 'household' leafblower is that strong....

I just said 220+ beause I have an electic Craftsman blower that is 220mph, and its a couple years old so I thought they may have somthing more powerful.

Dont know why anyone would need it tho. Mine broke itself, probably due to a mix of too much power and cheap plastic construction. I was using it one day, and the air director thing on the tip of the tube went flying off into the street.

Uhhh... personally, I wouldn't. I've always kinda wondered about just how good of an idea it is to, like he/they said, blow unfiltered air at high velocities onto the paint.

wow ozz just bitching at everyone today arent ya?

I think its time to grow up and act your age(assuming you are older than 12, if not then im sorry, then you are acting exactly as you should)

Sorry to the mods for this, but people with that attitude on this kind of board(mature) really annoy me.

Um, comments like that don't need to be made. It just adds to things that might not have been there and comments like that make it worse. Try and keep peace, not cause more trouble :-)

Awww, come on, Jade. It's cool. I definitely know what you're saying, but I don't think he meant it nearly as badly as you were thinking.

It's not like he used a 220+mph leaf blower on your car. :p

Exactly, and if you reread his post, it's really not that sarcastic. I guess it just goes to prove that you shouldn't make judgments about people you don't know because I know Ryan (I'm his girlfriend afterall) and that was not bitching :-) Talk to him about corporate america, that will get him going, a leafblower won't.

ok, if i misinterpreted it, then Im sorry. This just seems like the one of the only boards where people do not get into "flame" wars(yes i do realize that my post could be considered a flame) and it annoys me when people start to do that.

So, if it was interpreted wrong, ands its beginning to seem like it was although generally "Either way thanks for contributing to the conversation lol." is not considered to be a "nice" thing to say. sorry.

Hows the job going? Everything settling down after your mothers passing?

As a "pro" detailer I have been using an electric leaf blower for a good 5 years now and have never....and I mean never had anyone say anything negative about it. In fact if they say anything it is along the lines of......"Hey, how come I never thought of that?"

Also, as long as you don't use the leaf blower as a mulcher also on the weekends and then use it to blow off your customers cars then there will be no flying "debris" shooting out at the car.

Driving a car on a freeway at 75mph will encounter more grit and gravel damage and fine scratches than a leaf blower could ever do.

Lastly, a leaf blower should be used only to remove standing water and if done properly works far better than driving the car down the street or up and down the drive way a few times to try and remove the water. Trying to soak that water up with a microfiber towel is far too time consuming for a pro and besides that it is also a pain in the neck trying to polish a car and water keeps dripping from the tailights or sideviews.
