Disappointed with Wolfgang

This is the second time I have tried Wolfgang on a different color car and I am not really all that impressed with it.

The first car I used it on was my 2000 Toyota 4Runner (Millenium Silver). I found that it just didn't give the pop in the metallic that I was looking for. The look was more muted and I was told that Wolfgang does have more a "carnuaba" look to it.

Today I decided to give it a try on my 1997 Red Ford F150. I QEW'd and prepped the surface with AIO by PC. I put a coat of Wolfgang on one side and buffed off with a MF bonnet on a PC.

I must say that the finish lacks something to me. No pop...just a muted shine. I was however impressed with how the the finish was amazingly slick.

Oh well...I proceeded to reapply NXT over the entire car. I know that NXT might have durability issues but it is so easy to use and the results are great.

Was Wolfgang over-hyped or am I doing something wrong???

IMHO WG was way over hyped. I actually don't mind the look of the product, its the durability that disapointed me.

I'm with Bill. Like most new products discussed here, WG was way over hyped. It's an OK product, plenty slick when fresh but that goes away after a couple washes, appearance is decent but a little bland, but it's plenty safe to use and has almost no solvents.

So it has its plusses and minuses, like everything else. Good thing there are so many products to choose from.

Yeah..I just finished putting on NXT x2 and the difference is really noticeable. NXT really bring out the reflections in the red. Especially with 2 coats.

Oh well....Wolfgang may be a product I use on friends cars, my jetski's, or my boat.

Wolfgang provides a different look from most sealants. Some like it, some don't. 2 and 3 coats of Wolfgang really add to its effect.

Next to Souveran the Wolfgang Paint Sealant has to be my next best choice. I don't think my truck is fully done until I apply a layer or two of the Paint sealant, something about the wet looks that it gives the truck. Some people like a wet look some don't.:wavey

Wolfgang on red is stunning. Same thing with dark metallics. I have no real dislikes other than it's durability.

WG lasted 4 months before I could honestly tell it needed something done. I wonder why others are having durability issues? If it's slickness, then that went away in a month or so. But protection was there. Why did it work for me that long? Could it be our dry climate? Was it the IP/ FP prep I did first? NXT Soap? Do I have perception problems?

Threads like this just reinforce my growing belief that it really doesn't matter what people say but what one experiences that counts. I take most of these positive and negative threads anymore as "informed suggestions". Some more, some less.

The funny part is, I'm still gonna read 'em!

I really like how Wolfgang makes my paint "POP" I can not understand why some people can not get the same results. I also get about four months before I had to reaply. I do use the Detail Spritz twice a week. I was talking to Jason @ Autogeek and he told me that you should not wash the car for a few hours after putting on the paint sealant, it needs time to set up and not late in the day if you leave the car outside, the dampness does not let the sealant set up. If Wolfgang can not set up, you will not get that great "POP" that we all love. :xyxthumbs

it was over hyped imho.. I only use WG SG on certain people's cars that simply want "ease of use" application or any "white" finishes.. other than that, i really like their Autobathe though

if you can stand the salad oil look vs the wet look , you 'll like it.

if you want the slickest finish with the salad oil look, then its the stuff

It's clear that both taste and personal experience play important roles here. It's also why there are so many different products.

Montoya contrasts salad oil with wet look, but I tend to think they're the same. On the other hand, a lot of supposedly "wet" sealants come across as cold and plasticky to me.

De gustibus and all that.

Also, I suspect that most people here are fickle and vary their products with their moods. Given, that sealants often change their looks after a wash or two matters are still further complicated.

I guess that makes this fun :)

I like it more on solid colors than on metallics, mostly because it has more of a Meguiars #26 look to it, ie a softer, carnanuba look. I have to agree, it doesn't have the 'pop' on metallics like some sealants do, but WG was marketed as a more carnauba looking product than traditional sealants.

Interesting observations, Pat. I take it durability and slickness are fine for you but you don't care for the look. I wouldn't say WG was overhyped by Autogeek, there was no build up like with NXT, but most of the initial reviews were pretty good as was mine. I stand by what I thought of it then because it applies now.

I do agree that NXT has a more reflective look than Wolfgang and I do like it on some colors more, like metallic blues.

Right now, I have it on a black S500 and #16 on his wife's black X5, applied a week apart. I am interested in seeing which lasts longer. I've had good results with both products.

You know lawrence, they should be the same thing. I don't see how either word can translate into a different look when describing waxes/sealants. The reality is, both words are thrown around here with such regularity, its no wonder there is so much hype conected to all the products we discuss.

People, please, no flame intended. Just stating my opinion. :)

Bill-we probably get it from the wax manufacturers themselves...after all, they can't seem to decide what to call their products. Glaze, polish and wax all seem to be interchangible! ;)

I personally love wolfgang. Its ease of use makes it the s100 of sealants to me. You can wipe off right after you make a round on the car wiping on, and it comes off just as easy as s100. Although klasse can supposedly be wiped on and off too, i need to muscle it a bit more than with wg. I have no durability issues, though klasse and zaino do seem to last longer.

i really dislike the detail spray, though. I don't see it doing much more than what other cheaper alternatives do.

Well...I finished the car yesterday and applied NXT x2 and the difference between the two was amazing. The NXT definitely had a huge pop to it on the red. I really think that applying a second coat of NXT made a huge difference.

I am really loving the Pakshak microfiber bonnets for the PC. They making removal such a breeze.

I am not bashing Wolfgang. I do like its ease of use and slickness. It just didn't give the look on the car I was hoping for after all the discussion about it.
